Since about March, my XMC-1 developed a weird issue where it would start popping very loudly on SW2 output, randomly, when entering or exiting Dirac mode. The pop was loud enough to blow the fuse on my Fathom F-112. I tested with another F-112, hooked to the same output, and it would do the same thing, extremely loud pop, randomly when entering Dirac. Fast forward a bit, and I just received a new XMC-1 unit. Hooked it up, and at first everything seemed good, there's a super light pop or click, from the mains and surrounds when entering Dirac mode, but nothing objectionable. Then after about 20 times (I was trying to get my microphone detected by the software), it did the super loud pop on the last attempt (then I powered my subs off to prevent further damage). At this point, I'm a bit perplexed as both the subwoofer and processor have been replaced with different units. Has anyone else seen this kind of problem, or noticed any weird noise or clicks when entering Dirac mode? I'm starting to wonder if my electrical circuit is just cursed maybe...

If your talking about when switching from the Dirac preset to one of the other two presets and back again, no, I get no popping. But I sometimes get a pop when leaving Dirac software after creating a filter but nothing like you describe.

I have had a few scares with this same problem. I just learned to turn my subs on after my mains when running Dirac.

Yes, I get the same when carrying out a Dirac LE run. I'd presumed it was normal.
If its blowing speaker fuses, I'd report it to Emotiva.

If your talking about when switching from the Dirac preset to one of the other two presets and back again, no, I get no popping. But I sometimes get a pop when leaving Dirac software after creating a filter but nothing like you describe. It's not when switching presets, it's when the software switches the XMC-1 into Dirac mode for calibration (display says "Dirac Connected" or "Dirac Complete"). A while back, I uploaded a video of it happening, for Emotiva techs to look at. You can see what I'm talking about here, the interesting part is at 1:30: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP_gvK40IbEI like the work-around to just power off the subs until calibration starts (although several times I've noticed it's not just one pop, but continued pops every 5-10 seconds or even a heavy distorted signal, like a square wave, working to rip the voice coil out of my sub My first couple calibrations were completely without issue, so I thought the unit had just gone bad. But now that my second one is doing the same, I'm not sure what to think. Unfortunately for me, blowing the fuse on a Fathom F-112, means all 130 lbs of it must be shipped back to JL Audio, at my cost, which really sucks (not to mention packing and unpacking those monsters is no fun).

The pop I get sometimes when leaving Dirac is not anywhere near what you're describing and never is it a series of continued pops, only one medium thump at worst. Are you on the latest firmware?

We've got your original XMC-1 back here, and I've confirmed that there is in fact a rather obscure internal fault with the right subwoofer channel (we just tested it this week - since we had already sent out a replacement). The fault seems to come and go over a matter of several minutes, but, when it's present, any sudden change in volume on the Right Balanced Subwoofer Output causes a rather loud pop (Dirac changes the volume level abruptly when it engages the test generator). The fault appears to be due to some DC leakage on an internal circuit, and seems to only occur some of the time; while the DC is blocked from reaching the output, its presence internally causes the pop when the volume control for that channel changes setting. (We haven't reproduced the longer "noise" - but it's obviously part of the same problem. It's difficult to troubleshoot an intermittent problem.) While we've occasionally had similar problems occur, this is the first time I've heard of a case anywhere near this extreme, and I think that it's MOST unlikely that the replacement unit we sent is experiencing the same problem. I suspect that what you're experiencing now is the more normal "occasional odd noise when Dirac takes over the DSP". (Even the original pop due to the fault shouldn't have been loud enough to damage a sub - or blow a fuse- unless the gain on the sub was set quite high, and the more normal odd noises are totally harmless. Therefore, other than advising you to keep the level of the sub set relatively low - "just in case", I don't think you have anything to worry about... unless there's something else going on with the sub itself.
