Maybe PLIIx is an enhancement to PLII and can do everything PLII can and then some... Thats the crux of it geebo. Pl2 was released 1st and the algorithm was improved for pl2x ; pl2 dsp mode does 5channels and pl2x adds a "lfe" channel. If you can hear your sub with the right material that may be an indication.. pl2 and pl2x both have music/movie modes. www.wow.com/wiki/Pro_Logic_IIDenon have had some unique speaker bass management over the years ; they had dual side surrounds for different inputs at one stage if that explains their implementation . Another thought was whether the xmc1 is doing a mixdown to 5.1 when you tell it no backs ? That would be a thoughtful design feature from emo if so  |

Whether it's the way Dolby designed it or it's Emotiva's implementation I don't know, but I think there are pretty stringent licensing requirements by Dolby. Not that I use PLIIx or dtsNeo:6 but they are available with a 5.1 arrangement with the XMC. |

Good tip, you're right. You have to already be in a Dolby PLIIx or DTS Neo mode, and then it will switch between the Music / Movie sub-modes of that type (PLIIx Movie or Music, or Neo Cinema or Music). That makes sense now.
