I've had a UMC-1 for a little over 6 years now and wanted to say just how much I'm missing her now that she has developed a fatal fault. Sure, she has had her foibles and niggles, as many of us have experienced but now that she's gone all I can think of is all the great times and films I've watched with her. I worked out long ago that switching her off at the wall meant that a clean start up every time we spent time together meant that most of her idiosyncrasies could be avoided, whilst also saving standby power consumption. I learned not to be too harsh on her handshake hesitations, and dropped audio by having the remote programmed so that a quick flick between inputs would arouse her ability to lock onto that difficult lossless stream of audio goodness. She taught me that the XLR subwoofer output is such a wonderful feature that nothing less will now do to drive my HiSAF subs to their optimum. The simplicity and logic that belies her clear and easy to navigate menus has made me incapable of helping my friends to set up their systems with myriad menu layers and impenetrable acronyms. And the manual EmoQ, tho basic in comparison to more modern implementations helped bring sublime sub-bass into my home theater. This is not the first time she has faltered, tho Emotiva's dedicated after sales service team saw her back into service for another few years, for free, under warranty, all the way to me in Western Australia. Unfortunately this time however she is beyond all reasonable repair options. So it is with surprising sadness that I say farewell to my UMC-1. She has served me well. She is already sorely missed. Bring on the new BasX and Emersa pre/pros soon please Emotiva, I'll happily be a beta tester and perhaps enjoy a few quirks along the way, just to remind me of my dearly departed UMC-1.

I have an old UMC-1 from your vintage if you feel you need another one.

Still rocking my UMC-1. I am curious what you perceive XLR sub out does for you that RCA sub out does not?

Hey guys thanks for your replies. You are funny people.
monkumonku - Ava was def a high point for me too, but at least my UMC-1 never knifed anyone!
Bill- I am hanging out to buy a new one(Basx or Emersa), but the XMC-1 won't fit in my rack, it's too tall.
rbk123 - The XLR output just makes it easier to integrate with professional gear (see link to my HiSAF Sub build in original post) and has higher voltage output too (as outlined by an Emo tech)to properly drive this kind of kit.
jake1tut - the cause of death is unknown, I just switched her on for a viewing of Deadpool last weekend and I had the following symptoms as described to Emo Support...
"When I power it on by pressing the front panel power button all the blue lights come on except the screen on the unit is blank. Then 10 seconds later the unit appears to shut down (it makes the shut down relay clicks) the power button turns orange but the remainder of the blue lights stay on. It will then switch on again, ie the power button turns blue again and this seems to be a cycle - power button switches on (blue) and then 10 seconds later switches off (orange) again - no screen, blue lights stay on".
Emotiva support explained that this symptom could be from multiple causes that would require return to Emotiva for diagnosis but being in Australia this would be uneconomic due to very high round trip postage costs.
stiehl11 - how can I get my hands on your lady (UMC-1)?

Your unit committed suicide because it couldn't bare the thought of waisting your time watching deadpool!! Smart unit!!!

If rack space is the ONLY thing holding you back from the XMC-1, I would run out and buy myself a rack stretcher quick! Best processor in the world for the money and perhaps, at any price. Cannot somehow re-arrange, assess?? Bill
