Hmm...can someone maybe give me an idea on this:
Would it be better to use an XDA-2 Gen I or the new BasX pre amp as a DAC? Both have the outputs I need, but I'm really liking how that unit looks, and the fact it's a legit preamp that just appears to have a built in DAC. If so, I may trade up my XDA.

The DAC you SHOULD use is the DC-1. It's very good.

Price is a factor. I can justify a $100 upgrade more readily than a $200 one.

I think the PT-1000 hits a number of useful factors. Not everybody wants surround sound. The phono input, headphone and subwoofer out are the selling points imo.

I think come August I may consider upgrading honestly. I don't use a slew of outputs on it because of my fusion, but some added buffer and better features loaded onto it definitely piques my interest.

This is exactly why it piqued my interest as well. Not to mention the digital inputs and optional Bluetooth. It meets my needs perfectly. I've already ordered one for delivery in August.
