For starters, set the sub crossover to a high setting and set the processor setting to 80Hz. Don't forget to set the speaker size too... Start with Small unless you're main speakers dip to 35Hz our below. Play some music you're very familiar with and see how you like it. Adjust the crossover frequency and try again with the same music. Rinse and repeat until you find a setting that you're happy with. Then play other music and refine as needed. Feel free to post questions here, we're here to help. Most of all, don't listen to that guy setting up your system!

80 hz speakers small even if they go lower What will setting my speakers to small do? Ive been playing with it a bit again lately and it seems to have a bigger sound stage when i set them to big speakers which makes sense however when i do have them set to big my sub is almost non existent even when i dont change any sub settings. When i swap the speaker settings to small the sub pounds like it should. Any advice? "Big" and "Small" are misnomers, it really should be something like "do you want the LFE to come out of all speakers" or "do you want LFE to come out of your sub woofer only". As a result of the "Big" and "Small" naming some people believe that since they have physically big towers that setting them to "Small" must be wrong. The fact is it's got absolutely nothing to do with their size. It is simply the listeners preference of where they want the LFE to be sent to. Obviously that preference should be based on what frequencies the speakers will handle, but it doesn't have to be, it's our choice. I think you will find that most (not all) people have the setting to "do you want the LFE to come out of the subwoofer only". Ie; "Small". Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary Yeah, the "big" and "small" labeling approach is really problematic. Scott Wilkinson (Sound & Vision/AVS Forum) once said this was one of the biggest disservices he's observed in all his years in AV.

I think you will find that most (not all) people have the setting to "do you want the LFE to come out of the subwoofer only". Ie; "Small". Cheers Gary Sorry to say but your explanation is wrong if you use the term LFE correctly! "LFE" (Low frequency effects) is a dedicated channel on the MEDIA, which is ALWAYS played back via the subwoofer only. The only exception is a x.0 configuration where you have no subwoofer. Otherwise there are 3 possibilities: 1. "Small" sends the low frequency part of the dedicated speaker channels below the configured crossover frequency for the speaker to the sub. So the sub play the LFE and the part below the crossover frequency of each speaker set to "small". 2. "Large" sends the whole dedicated channel to the corresponding speaker. The sub only plays the LFE. 3. Using some setting like "Doublebass" or "LFE + Main" the low frequency part of all speakers, regardless if large or small, is send to the sub. So the sub plays the LFE and the low frequency parts of all speakers. This should be avoided due to phase problems arising. Short note, as you can see in 3., even Marantz and Denon are using the term "LFE" incorrectly. "LFE" if correctly used always refers to a dedicated input channel, not the sub / an output channel!
