hey guys, i guess i'm missing something that should be super blatant. other than Atmos, and DTS-X, what will be different? from the enhancements page, it really just seems the 2 major upgrades will be included, well, for an extra $500. is it going to be physically different? different buttons? different layout? the main reason i'm asking, i'm helping a guy buy literately everything, all at once! yeah, super cool to be able to do that....there is a deal for a XMC-1 Gen 2 for LESS than $1000! the good news, this guy is not even remotely interested in Atmos. so is it worth the wait for the Gen 3 with the upgrade for $3K?
his HT: Klipsch RF7ii Klipsch RC64ii Klipsch RS42 (upgraded XO's) Emotiva XMC-1 Gen 2/3 Emotiva XPA Gen 3 (7 channel) Oppo 103D Darbee Furman 20PFI
(he's looking for a 90" tv!) no decisions on Subs yet. he is still currently building the HT room. i told him to wait on the subs until the room is completed because it looks like the spaces he built are too small.

Don't forget the support for latest HDMI version which your friend may or may not need depending on his choice of TV.

oppo is 1.4a and XMC-1 Gen 2 is 1.4b Yes, gen 2 works fine with the Oppo but gen 3 will have HDMI 2.x support needed for 4k and higher sources so gen 3 would work with future sources and TVs. That said, you could get gen 2 now and buy an upgrade card if/when needed.

I'm not sure that I understand the question, the "current" XMC-1 will be able to be upgraded to the same spec as the "next" XMC-1. So if he needs an XMC-1 now then buy it, if he can comfortably wait until the "next" is available then wait.
Cheers Gary

An XMC-1 for less than $1000 is a no brainier, it doesn't matter if it works for what you need or not. It probably will work, but even if it didn't you could sell it for much more than that. Buy it before you loose the opportunity talking about it.

If anyone decides to sell an XMC-1 for $1,000 please PM me. Emotiva doesn't have record of my DMC-1 and MPS-1 purchase from ten years ago so I don't qualify for any discounts. Not the only reason I bought the Big Dogs but definitely was a consideration, so the situation is leaving a sour taste in my mouth truth be told.

IIRC, the 40% off cards and "upgrade for life" didn't start until the UMC-1 issues cropped up, for purchasers of that processor only. Ended when the last of the UMC-200's were shipped.

While the 40% cards were started in the UMC-1 era and the UFL after that until the XMC-1, the DMC-1/MMC-1/LMC-1/DMR-1 were also a part of the 40% off your next processor deal. I bought an LMC-1 from Emotiva right after their move to Franklin, TN, which qualified me for 40% off a next generation processor and also got me UFL status.

I jumped on the last of the UMC-200's to get UFL. The discount on an XMC-1 Atmos will be more than I paid for the UMC. Can't go wrong.

If he doesn't want the XMC-1 for under $1000, I will take it.

I bought my DMC-1/MPS-1 around ten years ago. I don't remember whether the specifics were a one-time upgrade or lifetime, but I was promised I'd get 40% off my next purchase. We didn't get cards back then, didn't have much at all really, just a group of guys getting together in houses having BBQs and showing off the new gear that was coming out. I can chalk part of it up to the fallout from the AV123/Emotiva split and paperwork getting lost or not transferred, but after the response from Emotiva customer support was "tough luck" and since I'm part of the earliest group of supporters it doesn't motivate me to make any future purchases directly from the company. I'd even be willing to take a factory renewed XMC-1 at the discounted price but I don't feel comfortable spending more for a factory renewed unit than what I should be paying on a brand new one with a correctly figured loyalty discount. Anyway, I've said my piece on it and not trying to threadcrap. I had just gotten off the phone with support and saw this thread.

While, as you say, paperwork may have been a part of the AV123 company that Mark Shifter ran, I'd ask you if you kept any of your own receipts from your DMC-1 purchase. Personally I keep all of these types of receipts until I no longer have the item for whatever possible reason I'd need them for. Hopefully you have them in the original box or something like that.
