The Yamaha looks featured-packed a winner, but I'm curious about the XMC-1(I've owned UMC-1, UMC-200). The original release said it was going to be 7.2.2, but the page now says its going to be 7.2.4. I have a lifetime 25% for Emo(though I lost my 40% coupon ). Will my lifetime work with the upgrade or the new Gen3? If so, it would make it about $250 cheaper than the Yamaha(as of right now) and with a better warranty. The feature loss of the Yamaha might be worth that to me...What do you guys think. Obviously, this is hard to judge as the upgrade isn't available yet...but we can always speculate

I'm also considering moving to Yamaha RX-A3060 and running my emo amps with it....

It seems like a lot of people rave about YPAO Automatic System Calibration. Has anyone used it or heard it an action? I actually like Pioneer MCACC.

Ive used it extensively for years, works very well for me, but to get it just right you need to spend time adjusting it by ear afterwards. Everybody hears and likes their sound a little differently. The adjustments are never ending , if thats your thing. But Ive gotten very good at it and it doesn't take me much time to get it where I like. thats fot HT, for two channel music listening I/you don't need it.

I'm definitely looking to move to atmos and dts-x. I ran the wiring 1.5 years ago when I started reading about it....It might be "trendy" and I usually don't follow that "trend", but I think its something that adds to the HT experience even though I've never even heard it...

Few things about the xmc1 ; better room eq which also will be incorporated into the ceiling speakers ; not just the bed speakers like most . No chance of any hdmi upgrades[or other features no doubt] with the yammie ; hdmi2.0b is coming - it never stops . Consider what features cant be supplied through other sources possibly ? The other question is if you need the pre pro now or are willing to buy now and send in for the atmos/dts-x upgrade ? or wait..

Yamaha makes some fine equipment. I would rather purchase from a American based company that is at least trying to design and assemble most of it here(Emotiva)

I guess I could call about the upgrade card but I highly doubt it will make much difference. I had the physical card and I think you need to send that back in. I didn't realize the HDMI 2.0b was being put into the XMC-1. I will have to research the benefit of the "b". I can certainly wait a few more months, but then it just turns into the "waiting game"...wait a few more months...then...something else "better" is coming out....wait a for months for that....something "even better".....This hobby is an addiction.

Yes your right they do require it sent in . HDMI 2.0b is something I mentioned as a possibility due to the XMC1'S modularity ; the yam has no options here . Its important for the future of dynamic HDR10 passthrough [of which dolby vision is dynamic as well] ; HDMI2.0a can pass HDR10 static metadata which you may be happy with ; the coming 5 port? xmc1 card will be enough for many as who knows what tv's will be compatible with "b" in the future Just add dolby vision can be passed by hdmi1.4 ; muddy waters indeed

xmc-1 full balanced xrl (Stereo) with stronger VMRS output compare to yamaha it also has Dirac Live Room EQ with possibility to have Dirac Unison. xmc also has HDMI board upgrades
the choice is clear to me, if you care about audio. If you like to have everything and the kitchen sink, go with Yamaha

If you like to have everything and the kitchen sink, go with Yamaha I guess that I'm going to wait on the new XMC: Gen3(whenever it will be out). I supposed I'm not in a rush, but the upgrade bug has bitten me and it's getting really itchy....I think the key feature will be Dolby Vision and HDR10 and it would suck to pull the trigger on something too early and not get those options only to regret it later. Though I haven't seen anything(offical) from Emotiva that those will be in the XMC '17 release.... The waiting game continues...
