I ripped apart my RPI based HTPC today to replace the RPI 1 with the new RPI 3 and give Volumio 2 a try. First off, boy is the RPI 3 fast. Browsing the web with the RPI 1 could be painfully slow. Volumio 2 is a nice improvement over version 1. It is a complete rewrite. Everything is just a little smoother. I'm just starting with it and will write more later. The "more or less" is because I would be more inclined to call it a release candidate, but I think they just wanted to get it into the "wild" for any last bugs. On an aside, Bryston is releasing a product based on this hardware: Link

Nice, Bryston. Slap your name on a $35 computer designed for education and charge audiophools $1500.

Volumio2 also has a version that runs on the x86 platform. I have an old Dell netbook which was no longer good for much so I installed the Volumio OS on it. Music library is an external disk and it drives the XDA-2 via USB with no additional drivers.

The network drive is connected to my router which serves it up via SMB (and DLNA). It shows up when I go to "Add New Drive", but the mounting fails because I don't need a username and password to access it. I've searched online and cannot find anything that addresses this. I'm hoping you have an idea Chuck Elliot

Thanks, Chuck. I'll copy some files to a usb stick and see how that works. Next step would be to tackle AirPlay - I don't have that going yet either.
