Just curious why you'd go for one over the other considering the price diff of only $100? Also what about the vanatoo one over the 5s? Is the dac make the vanatoo's worth it over the 5s?
I'm currently in the market and a bit confused as to what to get. My budget is $600.

Price is a big reason, going from the 5s to the 6s is an increase of what, 25%? Size might also be a concern depending on your room. In a really small room you might want to favour the smaller speakers.
As for the Vanatoo; I'd pick either of the Emotiva's over the Vanatoo based on the tweeter alone, I really like the ribbon tweeters I've heard (adam, not emotiva), and please note that the Vanatoo coming with a dac in a powered speaker means they've probably spent less on the speaker / amp then Emotiva's offering since they have to spend something on the dac as well.
So if your budget is $600 and your room is not tiny then between those 3 choices my recommendation would be the Airmotiv 6s.
Edit: and if you don't yet have a DAC, then you could add the Emotiva little Ego for $100 and nicely stay in budget.

+1 I have both and the 6's simply would not fit where the 5's are. So in addition to the $100, size can be a big factor.

Yes size does matter. Though I made it work space wise for the 6s. Your mileage may vary. The Airmotiv is a great solution. Add source, content to taste. Your drink of choice. Enjoy. Repeat as needed.

Do you need an amp for the 5s/6s? also just curious how does one connect the 6s to the mini ego exactly? Do you need to buy anything else besides the amp/dac? As the dac part of it seems to not have any l/r rca cable inputs? Do I need to buy this as well to convert the l/r to 3.5mm output?
Also is the drangonfly/micca origin plus similar to the mini ego? Thanks
Thanks

In my home office system I have a BigEgo connected via an Emotiva stereo jack to RCA cable to a pair of Airmotive 4's. I have tried 6's a couple of times and for the close field (arms length) I prefer the 4's. Horses for courses.

Thanks Thanks No, you don't need an amp for the 5s or 6s, they are both powered by class a/b amps internally. To connect the little ego, you would use the headphone out and plug a little headphone to rca adapter cable into it, like one of these: Then you plug the little ego into a usb port on your computer. So from your computer, to the little ego via usb cable (provided with little ego), then adapter using headphone out to rca (you need to buy this adapter), then rca to the airmotiv (you need to buy rca cables), and the airmotiv gets plugged into the wall (power cable provided with speakers). That should be it. I can't comment on the other dacs, I have a big ego (slightly more features/outputs than little ego but basically same thing) and love it.

Yes it is true. Class A/B Power amplifiers built in and optimized for the driver complement, and Crossover system. Everything is purpose matched for maximum performance. Including the beefy Linear Power Supply. The only hard part to owning the Airmotiv is what favorite song do you play through them first.

Another quick question. Is 3.5mm input or tos link input better quality wise for movies/music? Or are they the same?
Big ego has toslink and 3.5 while small ego just has 3.5.

I believe the toslink is digital and the 3.5 mm is analog so for Bluray movies I would think the toslink would be better.

As far as I know the only input on the Ego's is USB. The outputs are; 1. toslink, ie; digital, which means not using the DAC in the Ego. 2. 3.5 stereo headphones @ I understand 1.8 volts ie; analogue, volume controlled by a resistor ladder, which negates the need for digital volume control and it's issues. 3. On the BigEgo there is also a 3.5 stereo output for speakers @ I understand 2.0 volts ie; also analogue, but it doesn't use the resistor ladder volume control. I use the 3.5 stereo headphones output for Big Ego connection to my Airmotive 4's so as to utilise the resistor ladder volume control. Cheers Gary
