The reason for my above rant is the same could be applied to Dirac. Hope they are financially sound. If they go under, Emo (& others) would need to buy out the software or the units are useless.

Update- After boasting about shipping my unit to Franklin in 1 business day, now I'm paying for it. No good deed goes unpunished. Emo shipped the unit the day after service was complete- 8/19, it arrive in Dallas in a couple days, UPS tried to deliver it to me- but THE WRONG CITY. So UPS sent it back to Franklin and on the way back, UPS tried to deliver it to someone in ARK. Suzanne, Emo Mgr got it back and re-shipped it to me on 8/26. It was suppose to be delivered here yesterday. Guess where it is today? going back to Franklin, TN. Suzanne has been great help, but UPS... I'm restraining myself from obscenities. Can those geniuses READ a label???
Last month UPS delivered a package to me 3 times, but not my package. wrong name, wrong street address and wrong city and the Shipping label had all the info on it. Can these UPS geniuses READ LABELS??? 3 times they did it!!!
I fully expect the UMC-200 to be destroyed when/if I get it. This could turn into a nightmare.

A major complaint- D & M owned Escient who declared bankruptcy 7/2015. In doing so, all operations ceased including their proxy servers. Escient units connect to those servers for metadata and software updates. If you have a software problem and are fortunate enough to have a "golden image" to reload/repair the OS, you can fix your problem. With D&M shutting down their server, they have made these units useless; not because the hardware failed but no software support. If new CDs are imported, the metadata is useless without connecting to a server. D&M also owns McIntosh which markets basically the same units and their products are functioning as designed. D&M in their infinite wisdom did NOTHING to redirect the Escient units to the McIntosh servers so they can function. Escient units sold for $2000 up to $8000? and those of us who dished out cash are screwed. All service has been sub'd out, sold to a horrible service company; why didn't the servers get transferred too??? Heck even MS XP will still work without their support. I have made a decision to never purchase anything from D&M again; don't care how good it is- including Denon or Marantz AVxxxx. Service- there is a difference with whom you choose to do business with. Customers have rights too!!! Sincerely, Very pissed-off consumer Very happy with Emo so far. Fine Sounds SpA bought McIntosh from D&M in 2012.

OH BOY, that was fun. After Emo having my unit for 1 day, fixing it, them shipping it, UPS managed to screw it all up. Emo had to ship the unit to me 4 times, yes I said they shipped it to me 4 times. Every time it got to the local UPS distribution center, it was return back to Franklin, TN. UPS had the unit from 8/19 to 9/9. Can the morons working at UPS read a shipping label??? On the way back the third time to Franklin, they tried to deliver it to someone in Arkansas. (I'n in TX) When I talked with Janna and Suzanne at Emo and expressing my concerns of the unit having intermittent problems from the beating it probably took, they replaced the unit. The nice people at Emo shipped it USPS- Priority 2-day, no problemo. FINALLY, we have it.

Awesome customer service! Quoting a few thoughts in this thread: Yeah "stuff happens" but the UMC-200 failure was predictable, so much so that they should have ethically stopped selling them LONG before they did.
"A Major Complaint" I have one too, but not with the D&M
"Awesome Customer Service" I found exactly the opposite to be true, and like many others on the internet have indicated, I found it almost impossible (on numerous occasions) to get EMO to respond unless numerous contact attempts and public shaming's were made. My lone Emotiva experience was with the last of the UMC-200s. It lasted only a few uses over a 6 month period. It took forever just to get somebody from support to respond let alone get any real help. Getting an RMA was a long exercise in buggy firmware updates, reboots and long waits for response. In the end, I was so pissed off at EMO and the apologists in this forum that I never followed through with the RMA. The firmware is garbage, the update process is garbage, the power supply is garbage, etc. I would be willing to be that there are very few unserviced units left running. As somebody else indicated earlier in this thread, there should have been a recall or a replacement/upgrade offer. There is simply no excuse for how unreliable this product was, or the fact that emotive continued to sell it once they found out.
So I post here today, because the dead UMC-200 is still sitting on the downstairs bar-top and the lady of the house has demanded that it go somewhere... I thought I would hop on here and see what others were saying. I saw this thread and figured I would add my two cents.
In any case, the $500 boat anchor is going in the garbage this afternoon.
While many folks here make excuses for the state of the UMC-200 and Emotiva's handling of its issues, the entire experience was an unsavory eye-opener for me. In my honest opinion these folks are unethical and I will never do business with them again under any circumstances. I have talked to several other folks who feel the same way.

"In any case, the $500 boat anchor is going in the garbage this afternoon." I don't know.......for half a grand I would hang onto that anchor. 💰💰 Last time I bought an anchor, first trip out I hauled the thing back in and caught on it was ANOTHER ANCHOR. Two 4 one sale⚓️⚓️🚤🚤. Moral to the story?? Uhhh... Nope😅 Bill
