Here is the link to the fix and/or debunking of his set up if anyone wants to read in more detail what went on in him coming to the conclusion it was his gear.
Also, I see thrasher just put his UMC-200 and XPA-5 up for sale in another thread in case anyone is looking for goodies. I would say it rendered him pretty unhappy.
Edit:
Guys, be fair and stop drinking the blue kool aid. At some point open your minds and understand Emotiva is not the end all be all in all situations. I am actually quite underwhelmed with my Gen 2 XPA-2 and XPA-5 gear. I have a thirty year old Technics integrated that plays as loud or louder than my Gen 2 XPA-2's with a lot of music. I have actually called support after my purchase to find out why I am not getting to the same volume levels. My guess is and always has been the reduction in gain on the Gen 2 amps.
If 3db of gain is equal to twice the power output than shouldn't it be a substantial difference in output going from a Gen 1 XPA-2 (32db gain) to a Gen 2 XPA-2 (29db gain)? To me it makes a world of difference and has me at a crossroad for more than a year of abandoning my Gen 2 gear altogether. I have entertained the thought of offering it up for trade to anyone with properly maintained Gen 1 gear as well. I see absolutely no difference in clarity or music reproduction quality going from Gen 1 to Gen 2 but there is a significant drop in volume levels. My Sherbourn SR-120 receivers easily play louder than my Gen 2 XPA-2 and XPA-5 in the same space....and the Sherbourn is rated at 125 wpc while the XPA-2 is 300 wpc and the XPA-5 is 200 wpc. This is real, whether people want to accept it or not.
