Hi I just joined the darkside. I don't know if this is the right place to post but I have been looking for along time at these amps. I am going to pull the trigger soon. What's the best for me do you guys think. The majority is for home theater and I listen loud. Thanks

It's kind of hard to suggest, not knowing your budget.
If your looking around the 1k limit, I would suggest the xpa amp with 3 channels for your R,L,and C channels. The Marantz can then power the other 4 effects channels. It would give you more headroom for the 3 main channels, for movies and 2 channel when you turn on the music. You won't notice a different sound but you will get more headroom and possibly a little more clarity, and definitely more slam (for lack of better words).
If money isn't a big factor then you could go to the xpa 7 channel for all channels.
I haven't heard the new Bas-x equipment, but it would also do better than the receiver at a lower cost.

Nice setup!
I also have a Def Tech system and to power the BP8080's (L&R) I use an XPA-2 and for the other 9 channels, I use 2 XPA 5's. I used the XPA 2 for my mains because I also like to listen to my 2 channel stereo loud. My receiver is the Denon 4520 and I just use it as a pre/pro. I do not use the internal amps on the Denon at all.

In the experimenting that I did, there was "very" minimal difference between my original AVR and some 125 w/ch mono-blocks I had lying around, but there was a noticeable (to me) change from having 125 watts available to having 250 watts available (and then again 400 & 600 with my XPR's) I'd look at the XPA-3 at least or even the 5 if you don't want to shell out for the 7, since your main 5 are going to get the biggest workout.

BP7002's have a built in 300 watt subwoofer if I remember rightly. As such, a quality sounding amplifier is more important than outright grunt. So an XPA Gen 3 is a no brainer, how many channels is purely a budget consideration. You could just go with the 3 for the FL, centre and FR, or with 5 adding the SL and SR, or with 7 and cover the lot. Personally I'd do the 7, then it's done, no sending back for more channels and no additional freight.
Power wise, way back I went from a 125 WPC (rated, but really about 90 WPC with all channels driven) to a 200 WPC XPA-5 and the difference was way beyond what I expected. Very worthwhile and good value for money, especially since quality power amplifiers don't go out of date, they last years, decades even. They are not like AVR's or processors that are superseded every 12 months of so and have to be replaced every 2 to 3 years as the technology moves on. A great sounding power amplifier today will still be a great sounding power amplifier for many years.
Cheers Gary
