I'm wondering if anyone else has had the issues that I have had with my UMC-1? I was excited when it came out and pulled the trigger to replace an ACT3 that had been in my rack for a couple of years. I must admit that I did not hear a sonic improvement over the ACT3 but I truly wanted to be an Emotiva believer. I loved the marketing strategy, the product design theory - the whole bit!
Being an IT consultant I'm familiar with hardware/software glitches but now they are getting much more frequent and even constant. Here are some examples.
1. Occasionally when I power the unit on nothing happens. I can't even power it down on the front panel, I have to go to the back of my rack and use mechanical on/off and 1 time I had to remove the power cable altogether to reboot.
2. While watching a broadcast it will often cut the sound and video and the does a resynch or something, this only lasts for a second or 2, no big deal just annoying.
3. A few times I've gotten a buzz lower register through all speakers. Again, a cold boot solves the problem - but come on!
4. Occasionally it will just freezes on different sources and a cold boot solves the problem again.
5. The most frustrating issue though is this. In the middle of broadcasted TV (DirecTV) I lose all sound, video is fine, it's as if the UMC-1 is muted which it is not. Sometimes I can go up or down a channel, wait for it to synch, and go back to the channel I was watching. This happened at least 5 times during the Ohio State vs. Oklahoma game on Saturday night with a theater full of other anxious fans
One time I had to cold boot the unit. It often happens when changing channels too.
Has anyone else experienced these types of things or did I just get a lemon?!!
