It's been my experience that some amplifiers I've owned (one tube, one solid-state, and one a tube/ss hybrid) hum consistently - but ONLY when plugged into power conditioner devices.
The vast majority of amps don't seem to care whether or not there is a power conditioner between them and the wall. So this is a technical question for one of youse guys with experience in AC power theory & practices -
What's the difference in the amp itself that makes it "incompatible" with power conditioners?
Thanks - Boomzilla

When my amps are running, the only thing humming is my wife.....God, I hate when she does that. My tack is to ask her if she would like me to shutdown the system so she can sing solo. That usually clears up the hum.π±

Funny responses guys lol!
Boom, hum equals grounding issues. Could be as simple as needing a ground lift or something to that effect.
I thought this came up when someone was asking about the CMX and Big Dan and KeithL chimed in. (I could be wrong)

Some power conditioners output a sawtooth wave instead of a sine wave......

Of all the items on the conditioner (TV, cable-box, AirPort Express wireless hub, Oppo player, Ethernet port, power amps) only ONE has a hum problem. And plugging it into the wall doesn't solve its hum, either. So the amp itself is humming - not the amp's interaction with the conditioner (as I first thought). But I HAVE had two components in the past that DID hum with any conditioner, and DIDN'T without one. They were the Rouge Magnum 88 tubed integrated amp and a Chinese tube headphone amp (forgotten the model). So, as previous posters have pointed out, obviously the conditioner introduces enough of a ground issue that some equipment hums. And equipment that hums with or without the conditioner not only doesn't know the words but is also defective.

Smart man. Have you tried a hum eliminating product?

I thought the purpose of a Power Conditioner was to eliminate hum? Perhaps it is defective? Sincerely /b

Some do not account for DC offset in the AC line causing transformer resonance, I assume you are not speaking of a mistaken ground loop Right? Okay.
The resonance is hum. Sometimes on laminated iron core box transformers that have plates bonded together you get lamination rattle. Again hum. A toroidal hums too though it is an iron doughnut with copper wires wrapped around it. So if your power conditioner does isolate or eliminate DC, than you can play AC/DC without too much DC for instance and hum the words yourself. All joking aside, to a certain extent, DC is there. How much? Varies from place to place.
