I ended up checking 6 brands! And, one of those was "other" and I have 4 that fit in "other"...my Maggies, some Sony speakers in the kitchen, my Rythmik sub, and some in wall speakers in our master bedroom and hot tub room of a brand sold at Home Depot when we built our house.
The others were Polks in the living room, Def Tech 5500's for deck and master bath (3 pair), old B&W 202's, and a Paradigm sub and surrounds (not in use right now...).
I was surprised how many I have!
Mark (I just realized...I also have some Bose 301's in my son's room!)

18 year-old Vandersteen 3A Signatures plus (Vandersteen) surround components (and new-ish SVS PC12-plus sub) in theater/TV room.
Emotiva Stealth 8's and a 6 for center, and Xref-10 sub, in bedroom 3.1 TV set-up.
Emotiva Stealth 6's at my PC desk for stereo music listening, with Xref center/rears for surround components (and a "no-name" private-build old passive sub)

in my HT I have 7.1.4 with 7 Axiom speakers and 4 polk speakers for height and an emotiva sub.
in my bedroom I have a 5.1.2 with 3 Vintage Polk Audio speakers, a pair of Monitor 10a's and 1 Monitor 5a (all with Peerless tweeters), a pair of axiom surrounds an a pair of polk speakers for heights with a emotiva sub.
in my 2.0 listening area, I have a pair of Vintage Polk Audio SDA-2 speakers.
despite what some believe, to my ears, all of them blend in perfectly. I've never had an instance where I went, ok, they just panned from polk to axiom. they all produce very good sound together.

I own Paradigm Model 11s that are about 10 years old now and an Emotiva sub and 4 Airmotiv S5s but was just searching the web and decided to go to the Sony site for whatever reason, but thinking that these are way overpriced, they are also showing a 10,000 dollar pair ? Curious what everyone hear thinks. Not that Im looking to buy a 10 or 27 thousand dollar pair of speakers. LOL www.sony.com/electronics/speakers/ss-ar1

Curious what everyone hear thinks. Not that Im looking to buy a 10 or 27 thousand dollar pair of speakers. LOL www.sony.com/electronics/speakers/ss-ar1Sony is not the first name most think about for high-end hi-fi speakers, but they did the SS-AR1 really, really right (plus its smaller sibling, the SS-AR2, and the SS-NA series of speakers. They are very well done, and sound spectacular; I have heard them on a few occasions and always came away with a good impression. They do a couple things that I am in firm agreement with - they use rigid aluminum-cone woofers for the bass, and flexible yet self-damped paper cones for the midrange. (I personally advocate rigid cones for the bass range and slightly more flexible cones with good self-damping for the midrange.) And the supertweeters mounted above and below the main tweeter give them a detailed, airy high-frequency character, although they are not quite a match for our Airmotiv folded ribbon. As with virtually everything "high end", you do pay for them -- even the very similar (in size, configuration, and sound) Thiel TT-1, which Stereophile called expensive, is less expensive than the SS-NA2ES towers. So they are not aiming for the 'value' buyer with those products.
