I see the ERC-3 as something I could own. But I'm curious as to whose transport EMO buys for this player? The reason I ask is that I'm looking downstream to KEEPING the player for a long time and want to know parts will be available. The Laser would be the #1 difficult part to source if it goes bad in 5 or 6 years.
My original FD1000 was rendered 'broken' since getting a part for a 25 year old transport is of course, impossible.

If you are looking for transports , I'd look at an ERC-2 instead. I keep hearing about loud noise reports on the ERC-3. Seems it's hit or miss with some of these. I'm not saying that's what you'll get, but I would be cautious. The nice thing about both the ERC-2 and 3 is that they have AES outputs! So you could actually use AES inputs on the DACS out there.

I believe I remember hearing the slot loading transport of the ERC-1 and ERC-2 is no longer available. FWIW.

EMO buys the transport from somebody. Sony makes the KSS series. I think Philips is OUT of the market. Sanyo makes transports for Cambridge Audio, among many others. Matsushita, Panasonic and TEAC are smaller players.
I'm just curious as to WHO makes the transport for EMO? There are only 3 or 4 possible choices. I'd like a player with the Philips CD Pro, but that's just dreaming. Made in good numbers, parts should be available for quite a while.

Wasn't it a Toshiba DVD drive they have in the ERC-3?

There a number of transports out there. As the ones named in previous posts. Toshiba is another maker of transports as well. As true with all great things. Nothing is forever. I get the concern for longevity. Philips is out of the audio/video business as their own make. If you see Philips, most are OEM from another manufacturer in Japan. I sold allot of Philips named products, and no it is not the same Philips of CDM-9 PRO fame transport. Teac with the VRDS is wonderful. However the investment is quite a commitment.
I cannot comment on the ERC-3, as I have not used it. But it is one great player/transport that can be yours with the ability to play analog, toslink optical, AES/EBU balanced. Your choice of favorite flavor for your music playback.

There is an Oppo BDP-83 up for sale on the Emporium. Seems they hold up well and I'm sure someone will be offering parts form them for many years.

I've personally heard my uncle's ERC-3 in both his system and mine. It sounds superb in both. His does not have the transport noise issue. I highly recommend it!

i have an ERC-3 connected to my DC-1 via AES-EBU input. Works great, sounds great, no issues. I am glad i bought it because I still have a lot of cds. i wanted to be sure I had quality player for them before dedicated units disappear. It is getting almost old school now, and I stream a lot, but I love hearing the original bits. FWIW . .

Ditto on the ERC-3, mine is dead quiet and easily the best CD player I have heard. Because of the high speed spin an out of balance, off centre, wharped or distorted CD can make some noise.
Cheers Gary

Hey Quattroll. Just read your response on a post regarding erc-3 connected to a dc-1. I am considering this vs. using my xda-2 gen 1. I have mono blocks (xpa-1 gen2) My xda-2 is a little light in the bass. Was wondering about low end performance on the dc-1. I like the idea of bypassing my xsp-1 and going straight into the dac and on to the amps. Any feedback would be appreciated.

The DC-1 is superior to the XDA-2 especially as a preamp. The most striking difference is in terms of dynamics and resolution. The XDA-2 felt flat and lifeless compared to the DC-1. Remember to connect via XLR. That's what I've done with my DC-1 to XPA-1 gen 2. I don't run subwoofers so I can't speak directly to that if you are thinking of it. But the DC-1 was more transparent in resolution than the XSP-1 in both the treble and the bass. And this is ONLY for the XPA-1 gen 2 with XLR connections. In lower power amps like my UPA-2 I found the XSP-1 to be nicer. The bass especially with the XPA-1 gen 2 combo is very clear. You know that thing about tone, the bass has body to it and texture - if you have speakers that can dig that low. The DC-1 isn't light on bass, but it's also not a bass monster. The XSP-1 may have a little more pleasing scaling of the volume and dynamic - but the trade-off of resolution for me makes it unappealing. Having said that the XSP-1 is near the top of the best standalone preamps I've heard.

I have had the ERC-3 for a couple of years now. I moved my system into a smaller room and can now really hear the CD transport making quite a bit of mechanical noise when playing the CD. It never really bothered me before when my player was situated further away. My player now sits out in front of me 15' away and I can hear the CD spinning and chattering in the transport. Even brand new CD's which I know are not warped. Anybody know what is going on?

I have an ERC-3 as well and hear the same spinning related noise. My Oppo player right next to my ERC-3 has almost no audible spinning noise
