Guessing that the UPA-7 would blow the BasX away in just about every way, including build quality?

Guessing that the UPA-7 would blow the BasX away in just about every way, including build quality? I'm not sure 'blow away' would be the right phrase, I'd bet in some systems you might not notice the difference. That said, the UPA-7 is certainly a more powerful and robust design, and probably better build too. I wouldn't replace a working UPA-7 with a 700 unless matching cosmetics with a newer piece were important, but the UPA-7 is much older and no warranty so slightly more risk buying a used one.

Are you thinking about the one in Ontario on CAM haha Yes - been thinking about getting either a BasX 500 or 700 for surround duties, then saw that one come up over the weekend. Not sure. Would save me a little money, even with the likely hefty shipping cost, but no warranty.

The UPA-7 is the superior amp. It has 7 XPA-5 blades, a large transformer, heatsinks, no fan, and more capacitance. Unless you are talking about the UPA-700 which in that case would be very similar in build to the Basx
