Have these on a desk but they're pretty beastly.
I'm searching locally for what I can, but in the meantime... any suggestions?

If you like them that close then speaker stands that keep the same height as the desk just behind it. A small table behind the desk should work as well. Make sure you don't get resonance from whatever you place them on. If you don't have room behind the desk then I'd call em a 'leaverite' - leave er right there. That will preserve the sound stage.

My solution which is very inexpensive, decent but not great.
I bought two empty one quart paint cans, filled them with play sand and sealed them. Next, I cut to size some black vinyl I had laying around and wrapped it around the cans, securing the ends with gorilla glue tape.
Finally, I cut round sections of IKEA shelf liner (thick) to create a secure surface on which the monitors could sit.

I can make room. I had considered the table thing, stands are preferable. Any nice brands I should be looking at ? Lookin around for 30" and up for my desk height. Edit: oh more replies, thanks guys.

Thanks. Emotiva say they use "Ultimate Support". I see one in my price range but there's loads of companies that make one just like it.
