Crazy I posted this question over a year ago now.
I had emailed Emotiva and they said it was on hold indefinitely.
Hopefully one day it is released. It's a niche market but with Emotiva I think it would hit that sweet spot of performance and value. A lot of the higher end passive LCR go for a lot of money which seems crazy since of course as you get more for your buck with normal speakers.

I run Chane A5rx-c towers up front for LCR behind my screen and did own a A2rx-c for a while as a center and they are really good speakers for the price, this is the updated model and are sold out as they have been a huge success for Jon. They are very well built at 27lbs each www.chanemusiccinema.com/a-series-speakers/A2.4

If I had to guess it's because the soundbar was just way too wide for underneath a tv rack. Where would people put it?

If I had to guess it's because the soundbar was just way too wide for underneath a tv rack. Where would people put it? I see it as a compromise for a living/bedroom setup where one does not want to use an active sound bar. So on top of a mantle or something, get that minimalist look without giving up too much with performance. Again a niche market but this GoldenEar Technology offering is a good comparison www.goldenear.com/products/supercinema3dI went and heard the smaller of the two and it sounded great, though a bit thin (I was in a large open show room so likely it could have been tuned better). The reviews I've read suggest that their XL model is better, but still whereas the emotiva has a larger cabinet I'd imagine there's more mid range.
