I've often found myself underwhelmed by the Elacs we have had in-house or that I've heard at shows. Sure, they are fairly balanced sounding speakers, and do well presenting soundstage depth, but the treble definition is less delineated than the Airmotiv folded ribbon is capable of, and I don't feel I'm missing anything with the Airmotivs in soundstage width or depth relative to what the Elacs provide. Also, the vinyl finishes of the Elacs seem more prone to damage than others I've encountered. (I think our scheme for vinyl finishing is the best overall, with the number of seams minimized and sharp corners avoided). The Elac Debut speakers don't rise to the level of the Airmotivs, for which the Elac Uni-Fi series are a much more worthy challenger, though I find the Airmotivs to be even more engaging than the Uni-Fi. The Airmotivs deliver enough treble energy to fully illuminate what is happening in the midrange, where the music is, without sounding "bright", "harsh", or "grainy" as other speakers using metal domes can sometimes sound, and that is why they do so well at realism. I am somewhat biased because I did the final voicing for the Airmotiv crossovers, but that is how I feel they compare.

Agree on the ELAC vinyl work; it's sub-par. 80% of the music I listen to is digitally recorded orchestral music which can have WAY too much energy on top and a great deal of glare which is calmed down a bit by the ELACs. The ELAC B6, in my opinion, are not exciting speakers but have a purpose. I'm eager to hear the new line of Airmotivs.
