I have had this issue with both of the Emotiva processors I've used, and hoping someone can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. I have a 3rd gen apple TV (the black one, prior to Siri) that cannot work through my XMC-1. I don't know if this is typical for most folks, or if it's just me, but I've tried all sorts of cables and menu settings, but can never get it to work through the XMC-1.
I'm running 3.1 on the XMC-1 and the latest firmware on the Kuro (it's an upgraded PDP-6020FD). I've had the Kuro professionally calibrated for ISF is that matters.
I just get a black screen - have never seen any video unless I plug the Apple TV directly into the TV.
Only using HDMI, so I guess it's a HDCP thing.

The problem most likely is with the Apple TV. I have 2 Kuros and they have no issues with multiple sources. Best solution is to get a V4 of the Apple TV and see if the problem resolves through your settings. Also, have you updated your XMC-1 to have HDMI 2.0 yet? That would be the only situation where the DHCP would not be compatible and give you a black screen.

I have been successful using both G3 and G4 Apple TVs with the XMC-1, occasionally it's slow to sync. My first thought was cables, but you've tried that. I've heard some report that certain devices didn't work on specific inputs? I've never experienced that, but have you tried a different HDMI input?

So I haven't tried to see if audio works, as since I can't see video whatsoever, I haven't tried airplay to see what would happen.
It works fine with multiple HDMI sources - mac mini, tivo, security NVR, playstation, etc. Just _not_ the apple TV. I've even tried multiple Apple TV's. I've seen it go through maybe one time, but that was a fresh apple tv booting as brand new, after power cycling everything. It seems that as soon as I switch the source for the first time, it never comes back, which makes me think it's a HDCP thing.
I have not upgraded to the 2.0 board, as I don't do 4k, and didn't think it'd be of any benefit for me at the moment.
I've tried different inputs on the TV, different inputs on the XMC, same result. I've literally tried everything I can think of - unless I'm missing a setting somewhere that would prevent the two from working with one another. I've disabled all of the CEC stuff.
I suppose I could get a V4 AppleTV, but didn't want to throw more money at it if that one doesn't work, either.

Only thing I can think of is it has something to do with my kuro. Guess I'll order a new ATV and some new HDMI cables and give it another shot.

Any chance your Apple TV was previously connected to a panel with a different resolution?
With my Roku, if I configure it to output 1080p and then connect it to a 720p panel, it will not display. For some reason, I think your ATV deals with this automatically but not 100%.
Did you try a factory reset?
Disconnect your Apple TV from your TV. On the back of the Apple TV is a micro-usb port. Connect a micro-usb cable to the port and connect the Apple TV to your Mac or PC. ... Once connected, open iTunes. ... You will now have the option to restore your Apple TV. Click “Restore Apple TV…”

Nope, I've tried to reset the ATV many times, have done the whole "resolution switcher" test where you push some buttons on the remote and it cycles through different resolutions. I've tried brand new out of the box ATV's. Can't figure it out.

Tell me about it. I'm in the process of ordering a new Apple TV and all new hdmi cables from a different source. I'll give it the ol college try one more time. After that I have to assume it's my Kuro.
And I'm not giving up on this TV quite yet!
