This movie was a long wait! Every movie, I was thinking where is Apocalypse? But here it is. Take my money!! **Spoilers *** Quicksilver .... as usualy was fantastic. Everything else was surprisingly boring. CGI was probably the worst I've seen in recent times. How did they mess that up so badly, I don't know. Basically most of hte movie was Apocalypse moving very very slowly recruiting his horsemen in very uninteresting ways. There was an interesting bit in the middle where it wrapped up Wolverine's story from the first one. And then once again, meh. Now interestingly most of these characters have appeared before.....by the same director....in xmen 2 and the movie was brilliant. This one felt like it was still on the cutting room floor with awkward cuts, shots that were slightly too long, progression that felt like I was watching a story board sequence play out. The pacing was just off and the story was uninteresting.
The thing with CGI....if something epic was supposed to happen....we have to care about it. If we don't, it's just cgi. And unfortunately, I didn't care about a single thing. The other two members of the audience fell asleep.
Sad, because it had the makings of a movie that would have been fantastic if a bit more time and a better story were put in to it. It had Oscar Isaac for god's sake.
Contrast with Star Trek Beyond for a rushed movie done (mostly right) with amazing special effects. Rating 2.5 out of 5. 3

The last can movie I enjoyed was wolverine. The the problem with the franchise is that most of the characters are one dimensional. I mean you have what...wolverine and magneto as enjoyable characters and then what?

I would put professor X, Mystique, or Emma Frost as somewhat dimensional or at least better developed. But not by much. Some of the flavor of the day characters in the movies does get annoying. If you have them in the movie, develop them.

Quicksilver...without him these precursor movies would have been duds in my mind. Mystique...well you know eye candy doesn't hurt.

I didn't really like Apocalypse.
I thought the Captain America this year was much better and really enjoyed it!

I do like the captain America movies but I just didn't like the sour feeling of this movie. Let's face it none of the comic book movies are going to thrill us in every way. I just watch them for the parts I do like! I like bits and pieces of the X-Men movies too....my expectations have been lowered there for awhile.

IMO the problem with the X-Men movies is that the X-Men story arc is huge. The X-Men started out in 1963 and ran 60 something issues before being canceled. It ran as reprints until re-booted in the 95th issue with a revamped cast of characters. Chris Claremont's excellent story telling propelled the X-Men into one of Marvel's most popular titles.
The movies have shopped this huge history and mixed parts from everywhere. Overall I don't feel they have done as good a job as the could have.
CA is dark, yes, but so is life at times!
