I've never had a problem where it just stops working one day. It's been pretty stable and the worst bug to hit me was some duplication in the library that was fixed with a library restore. The time invested importing your media is going to be an issue with any media player that tracks metadata.
They're still one of the best, but like anything HTPC it's going to require effort and not going to be as WAF. If that's not for you, buy a purpose-built box. Otherwise, JRiver gives you 30 days free to figure out if it will work for you.

Been pretty solid for me, too. A couple times it didn't see my Oppo player but shutting down the Oppo and restarting took care of it.

I've gone through the network & verified that there are no IP address conflicts. As of now, everything looks good (and jRiver seems to be working again). if it KEEPS working reliably, then I'll keep using it. If it becomes frequently troublesome, I'll change programs.

Boom, it's $50 per platform or $70 for a master license. Not terribly expensive. That does not excuse their lack of support or flakiness however. What's worse about this sort of software, regardless of price, is the time invested in importing your media, setting it up correctly and fiddling with the settings to get it just right. And then, all of a sudden and for no apparent reason, it does not work one day. Very vexing indeed! I do feel your pain. (biting my lower lip) You should write a scathing review of it. Use your metaphoric pen to give them a kick in the butt. be the first reviewer to say something bad about a product. Actually, not a bad idea at all... Thanks! And my review is done. If Secrets won't publish it, then I'll post it here. I call 'em as I see 'em.
