I am now the owner of a new BasX A-700 amp as of this past Wednesday, and I am very pleased with the sound quality of this excellent amp. I have a Marantz SR5010 receiver which sounds very good to me, but this A-700 is definitely a step up in sound quality. I was a bit hesitant at first when deciding about ordering considering the 80wpc rating with all channels driven but it drives my Paradigm Studio 20s v5 with no problem and sounds so nice. I listen to a lot of MC music on sacds and dvd audio discs and the detail I am now hearing is amazing. Two of my favortie recordings are Steely Dan's Gaucho on sacd and Donald Fagen's Nightfly on dvd audio. I can hear detail that I was previously not hearing.
Movies are excellent as well. The A-700 handled the 7.1 audio track of Tron Legacy on bluray with no problem and great dynamics. I previously had an Emotiva XPA-5 gen1, an XPA-200 and a UMC-200 but they got damaged by a tornado the day after Christmas last year, and I am starting over with building another separates system. I would love to pair the A-700 with the new MC-700, but I need 7.1 inputs so I can use the excellent dacs of my Oppo 105. The Marantz SR5010 will do for now and I do like how Audyssey sounds with movies.
Thank you to Dan and the Emotiva staff for making a really nice sounding amp at an affordable price. Also thanks to those on the Lounge board who gave input on how a separate amp would make a difference in my system because it certainly has.

Thanks for your excellent review. How would you compare the new BasX against the Gen 1 XPA-5?

Thanks for your excellent review. How would you compare the new BasX against the Gen 1 XPA-5? Thanks for reading my short review. To be honest I would have to say the BasX amp sounds just about as good as my original XPA-5 gen1. I know that may be hard to believe but I think it is hard to make an accurate comparison based on the fact that I now have Studio 20v5 speakers instead of Studio 20v2 Paradigms. When I bought the version 5 speakers new last April, I could really tell quite a difference in detail and overall sound quality compared to ver.2. Now if I had an XPA gen3 amp then that would certainly be a different story in comparing the BasX.

Nice review. I have taken delivery of a new Bas X 500 (through Canadian distributor), but haven't had a chance to hook it up yet. As I have 3 x XPA-100 working the L/C/R, the A-500 will do surround duty - for now just the regular surrounds, but also planning to add some rear surrounds soon. Will have 1 unused channel for the time being.

Thanks for the review. I just ordered the mc7100 and have some time to decide on whether to buy the basx amp or the Emersa . Any idea as to when we will see the Emersa? Since I will be waiting a month for the mc7100 anyway , I can wait a little longer for the Emersa,

Not that I have a horse in this race but it would be cool if you could first wire the BasX for your front 3 and move the XPA`s to surround duty just long enough to let it break in and then compare it`s sound to the XPA`s.

Since I will be waiting a month for the mc7100 anyway , I can wait a little longer for the Emersa, The last I heard the Emersa line is supposed to come out in early 2017. I am anxious to hear impressions on the Emersa amps with the class D technology.
