Adam Audio F5 at AmazonAdam Audio Gmbh websiteI saw these on Amazon and thought they looked like the Emotiva Stealth series or new B1's. My imagination? I don't know how they sound as I was contemplating ELACs vs Emotiva's new speaker line. Knock off? Lol, the Adam's have been in production far longer than the stealths or B1's. Edit: figured I may as well try my hand at describing the Adam's sound. They are very nice speakers in general, and get a lot right. They are clear, effortless, and play quite loud. The tweeter is rated to 50,000 khz; we can't hear that high of course, but that means the sound we do hear is distortion free, and there is absolutely no ear fatigue. In the "cons" section; they are definitely near field, you would want to be within 6-8 feet of them for best results. They have a tiny bit of color to them in the lower frequency, I think it's just the "bookshelf effect", the same sound I hear in many cheaper bookshelf speakers. Only reason I hear it is because my Kef's do not have that sound and I compare to them. All in all, I would definitely recommend the speaker for the price. Can't compare them to Elac or Emotiva's since I haven't heard those. Adam has an excellent reputation in the pro-audio world, though most of that comes from their Ax line. Edit #2. Willing to bet (haven't heard them though) that the stealths are better than the adams. At their price points, they better be I've been itching to try a pair of stealth 8's but no dice yet. Also please note that amazon (and others) often sell studio monitors in single's, so the price on amazon there is for a single adam speaker, not a pair.

The perjorative term "knock-off" gets thrown around a bit too liberally for my liking, whenever there is an identifiably similar design feature between two products, when personally I think the test for a "knock-off" product goes well beyond that. In my opinion, the Adam Audio speakers aren't knock-offs of the Emotiva or vice versa - there are too many differences in drivers, cabinets, amplifiers, badging, industrial design, and the list goes on.
Adam Audio produces an excellent product, but they didn't invent the folded ribbon tweeter, and they don't have any sort of patent protection on its use in a studio monitor; other companies like Samson and Eve Audio also build folded ribbon equipped studio monitors. And they do it for the same reason we do - because the folded ribbon tweeter is a stellar retriever of detail, far beyond any dome, and without the drawbacks of conventional flat-film planar tweeters.

Thank you for your responses.
Audio isn't my specialty. I did wonder as generally a 'knock off' would also be manufactured in certain countries as opposed to Germany.

I invite you to open up the Adams and then open up the Airmotiv's... you might be surprised by how much better we build our gear.

All I can say is that my Stealth 6 sounded slightly better, to me, than the Adam A7x I tried before. The Airmotiv need a little more care in placement than the Adam because of their rear port. Now. If you want to see similar, look up QMS Audio Q or MH series speakers.

I own and REALLY like the ELAC B6 but the cabinets are extremely low end; vinyl wrap is peeling just a bit on one corner after one year. I would be extremely surprised if the same issue occurred with an Emotiva speaker.

But I also have 8 Adam speakers; 2 F7's and 6 F5's which I've had for a number of years now. I've had no issues with the quality of either the exterior or the internals.

I would be extremely surprised if the same issue occurred with an Emotiva speaker. There's a right and a wrong way to do vinyl. Our Airmotiv cabinets have a painted front baffle, but the rest of the cabinet is wrapped in a textured black vinyl that resists impacts, dust, and scratches. What makes our vinyl so durable is its application. It is wrapped around the cabinet, with a single seam on the bottom side of the cabinet. The competitive speakers being discussed above have seams along every corner, so damage or peeling is almost inevitable.
