Hello, I currently have a Carver M500T Power amp I used for my Hifiman HE-6. I have a 4pin XLR female end wired to the speaker taps on the amp to connect my headphones. I want to be able to connect headphones terminated with TRS as well. Would something such as this, be fine to use being the amplifier is not a balanced design? smile.amazon.com/dp/B00X2OUO7U/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2HD2Y4QPJYT4&coliid=I2M33HE86TXZKOI am also contemplating on making a 1/4" TRS jack to 4 banana plugs cable and just using all TRS cables for more simplicity. Again, being the amplifier itself is not balanced, would there be any danger of connecting the grounds for both channels together? Thanks

I would be Very Careful on a Carver Amp with touching GROUND wires together. The amp doesn't have 'common ground' on the speaker terminals. To Test? Unplug amp and wait for 30 minutes. Use a METER to check for continuity between the speaker ground terminals. I had the M400t, the lower powered 'cube' from the same era. I really remember the speaker grounds NOT being common. If I'm wrong, than the 4-2-3 connector you link should be OK. But Be Careful which pins are 'ground'. Shorting hot to ground will be the LAST mistake you make with that amp. I HOPE I'M NOT TOO LATE: See Link: www.synthfool.com/ebay/Carver_M-400_Manual.pdfManual cautions NOT to hook up any wires to one another. Given the PS configuration is the same across this entire series of amps, I'd suggest following the directions.
