Fall 1999, Mitsubishi 55" 16:9 WS HD-Ready CRT, $3600 plus tax. Spring 2006, Def Tech Speakers as in signature, $3375 pair, $900 center, and $450 surrounds, all plus tax. Fall 2013, Panasonic 65" ZT60 Plasma, $2999. I assume e the Mitsubishi was cutting edge in 1999?

Retailed for $4000. www.cnet.com/products/mitsubishi-platinum-series-ws-55805-platinum-55-rear-projection-tv/specs/Only one guy I know had better, and he had the same model only as 65". Nobody I knew had better until around 2006. We had a lot of good years on that sucker watching DVD's in anamorphic 16:9 while others had no clue. People came to our house an were in awe. And I easily bested everyone I knew with HD having it in 2003, while most didn't have it until years later than that. There was better, but it all cost a schiit ton more. The first plasma I saw was a 42" Phillips that cost $25,000, and it's PQ sucked. Before the Mits I had a 1995 32" Sony XBR, the second best TV money could buy. Cost me $1600. Was still running fine when I gave it away in 2014.

Well, I have often been scared into thinking I'm crazy by certain A/V related buys I have made, involving what I took to be excessively big dollar numbers. However, after seeing some numbers some of my fellow loungers have thrown out here today, on this thread, I'm beginning to feel quite "sane" about those buys of mine, which is an even scarier proposition. No names will be mentioned in this post, but all I can do for now is wish those big buyers and their wallets, more power, and "mo and mo powa" Personally, I confess that I am feeling rather humbled, and entirely unworthy at this very moment

This thread was a terrible idea. Since it appears we are allowed to do so, I just added up the cost of my turntable and related components and nearly gave myself a heart attack! Table, cartridge, phono stage, various upgrades, etc... over $8,000.

Table, cartridge, phono stage, various upgrades, etc... over $8,000. Start adding everything including racks and cables and heck, CD's and other media, and holy cow! It's a lot of coin. I custom made my 2 racks & Blu-ray case to save money and they ended up costing me in the neighborhood of $5000. That doesn't even include the CD case. Yikes. We need a new thread poll with the TOTAL, not just one component. NOT!

B&W 804's for about $3,500. Still running strong. Sony SXRD rear projector for about five large in 2005. Gave it away a couple of weeks ago. I had the B&W804S in rosewood, they were terrific speakers!🔈

If I added EVERYTHING in my dedicated HT room, equipment, cables, seating, lights and ascoutics the $$$ would be over 20grand!
Having someone asking me what kind of money I spend on this hobby doesn't bother me. It is all relative to what a person can afford and as long as THAT person is happy with his/her experience that's all that matters.

The tall thin ones you got brand new from that white store in Montgomery, Audible Elegance. Be careful sonny, if you don't cooperate nicely I might up the anti and demand you lift that subwoofer of yours into my new ride too. I'll bring a hand jack.
