It is the night before Christmas, and guess what Santa has just dragged in...
My XMC-1 has suddenly decided to freeze on start-up... Yes when I power it on,--today of all days--it just fires up to the "Starting up" stage, and just sits there, doing nothing else. Oh yes, I have unplugged it from the wall, and tried restarting it about three times already, all to no avail. It means that in my living room, at least, I am stuck with watching movies with the speakers on the tv itself, and listening to 2-channel stereo music on my headphones! What a bummer.. eh?
About three weeks ago, it was doing the opposite : it was refusing to shut down by automatically restarting itself when placed in Standby mode. Unplugging it from the wall, and replugging it removed the problem, so I thought it was just a passing freak incident that has been properly cured. Now I am realizing how wrong I was then... Now unplugging and replugging does not help... sigh!
Of course, I have other "toys" around the house to keep me busy during the holiday period, so things could be worse... Still, the XMC-1 occupies a special privileged place in my entertainment systems, and why choose a time when the good folks at Franklin, Tn are bound to be either on break or feverishly prepping for the CES, to crap out on me? It is probably what I hate more than not having the services of the XMC-1 for Christmas... i.e. having to uninstall it from my HT rig in order to RMA it to Franklin for I do not know how long... Oh how I wish the 2nd HDMI board and ATMOS/DTS-X upgrades were ready now... It would be great to send it back to Franklin for a consolidated repair + upgrade trip so that I do not have to double the return trip... but I guess it is what it is...
First world problems? Yes, but I wish that thought were enough to keep me from feeling rather p****d off at the moment... And so it goes:
That is just me trying on a little "graveyard"... errr "prison yard" humor in an attempt to cheer myself up... But this is not a prank... The XMC-1 really and simply refuses to boot up.
PS : Merry Christmas to all loungers, and may your holidays be a lot and much more cheerful than mine...
Oh, and if you know of some way to resolve this start-up issue (other than the RMA solution) please don't hesitate to chime in. Your help would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
