If a Marantz (or Denon) locks up via a firmware update there is a good chance that it may need to be sent into a service center to be reset or flashed. If it locks up and you pull the plug on it and it boots up you may be able to update the firmware, but you won't know until you try unfortunately. When you originally tried to update the firmware I assume it was via network. Was it via Wi-fi or hard wired? For others reading this it is typically not recommended to update firmware via Wi-fi. All upgrades on my Denon have been through network, no problem so far, knock on wood. ... Upgrading firmware via the network isn't an issue. It is just highly recommended to use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi if you do.
