Wow! The Atmos upgrade for the XMC-1 includes double rate DSD capability. Had any of you heard of the DSD upgrade before now? This from HiFi Secrets:
XMC-1 7.2-channel Preamp/Processor: Upgrade
Emotiva is following up the highly acclaimed upgrade of the XMC-1 pre/pro with a further enhancement that features 4K UHD HDR video as well as Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, HDMI 2.0b, and high-resolution 1x and 2x DSD audio support.
Emotiva spared no expense in designing this upgrade to make the XMC-1 the best AV processor at its price point. Eight HDMI inputs and dual HDMI outputs deliver a bit-perfect video stream, with full support for HDMI 2.0b and HDCP 2.2, and all current 4K HDR10 video formats.
Sonically, the XMC-1 upgrade delivers on all fronts, with support for up to 7.2.4 channels, and native audio decoding for single- and double-rate DSD digital audio from either HDMI or USB sources.
Left and right channels are handled by individual precision DAC chips, operated in fully balanced differential mono mode. Dirac Live for Emotiva automatic room correction on all channels ensures that sound is enjoyed exactly as the artists and producers intended.
Prices for updates to legacy XMC-1 preamp/processors are:
HDMI update: $349
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X: $499
XMC-1 updates are performed at Emotiva headquarters and by authorized Emotiva dealers.

Just so I am clear on this, the audio (ATMOS, DTS-X) and video upgrade (HDMI 2.0) will cost a total of $850 to an existing XMC-1 owner? I was under the impression that the whole upgrade was $500. With that logic, original cost of the unit was $2500 + $850 upgrade = $3350.... something seems off here? Please correct me if I am wrong.

If you paid full MSRP ($2499) for the XMC-1, then the HDMI board upgrade is free. The Atmos/DTS-X upgrade will set you back $499.

I have a new upgraded XMC-1 and while I can get it to work with UHD 4k pass through it won't do UHD HDR pass through. Every device I have is HDR capable, from inputs to screen. Am I missing a step to get the HDR feature to pass through, I assume it's just me.
Cheers Mark

So if I just got a new XMC-1 that says it came with the 2.2 PWB installed I'm just out of luck or have to spend to upgrade to another version of 2.2? I'm not seeing that in any of the literature. Maybe I just missed it some how, but the text below lead me to believe the current production units were fully upgraded to the latest HDMI, and is why I went with what is currently availible. XMC-1 Technology Enhancement 1: HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 Replacement HDMI board upgrades the XMC-1 from HDMI 1.4a to HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2. XMC-1 HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 Video Upgrade Board The original version of the XMC-1 was able to handle unprotected 4k video on all inputs and outputs, but did not support the HDCP 2.2 copy protection required by commercial 4k UHD video sources. This upgrade board adds support for the latest HDCP 2.2 copy protection to one HDMI input and one HDMI output on your XMC-1, allowing your XMC-1 to accept copy protected 4k UHD video from a 4k UHD Blu-Ray disc player or 4k UHD cable or satellite TV source. By utilizing this option, rather than the second HDMI video connection available on some 4k UHD disc players, you will be able to continue to enjoy the convenient switching capabilities and on-screen display provided by your XMC-1 with commercial 4k UHD video sources. NOTES: This upgrade is compatible with every XMC-1 sold since the beginning of production. If you purchased your XMC-1 directly from Emotiva after September 1, 2016, then your unit already includes this upgrade.Hardware - replaces original XMC-1 HDMI board Will be included standard on all units shipped after the board is available Available at no cost to anyone who purchases their XMC-1 from Emotiva at full price ($2,499) before the board is available (and anyone who has already purchased their XMC-1 at $2,499) Provides one HDMI 2.0 input and one HDMI 2.0 output - with full HDCP 2.2 support Available for $299 + $50 shipping to anyone who purchased their XMC-1 at a discount or on the used market Installed by Emotiva (at no cost - recommended) In production - available now Cheers Mark

That requires HDMI 2.0A which wasn't ready for the first version of the upgrade board. I have a separate video cable carrying video directly to my TV as a workaround until the new board is ready.

You could use this for surround sound for a PC system. Does it have volume control ?

Seems that volume is controlled by the source, though you can run the 7.1 analogs in/out of a UMC 200 (for instance) and control the volume that way.
