It was a good review. If I were in the market for a tube amp the ST120 would be at the top of my short list

A very well-written, informative review. And being that I own that amp, I have to concur with the findings, too.

Nice review indeed, but maybe Boom should have given all of us a glimpse of his face in the video so that some of us can recognize him in case we should run into him one day on the Streets of Baton Rouge, or New Orleans, La. Okay, just kidding, but still... Sometimes, it is easy to forget how unnerving it is for very friendly and personable participants in shared online forums, such as this one, can seem extremely familiar and yet remain almost completely unknown, at one and the same time...

B'zilla has a classic radio presenter voice! On a related note he used to be on the radio! Good job with the review!

Excellently done! My favorite part was you breaking down the sound into five categories - bass, treble, midrange, dynamics and imaging - and described what you were looking for, what samples you used, and what you found in each of those categories.
Very professional and descriptive. Congrats!

Already put in my 2 cents on your Boom thread but I'll say it again...Great review!
My 'audiobill' built VTA ST-120 amp has been the best addition I have made in many years!
If I might add one thing it would be how even at low listening levels the sound is very full bodied and satisfying. That is different from what I have experianced with any of my SS amps.

Low listening level is very pleasant. I do not feel the need to crank up the volume to enjoy the music.

A couple things about the review I agree with fully. First, the inputs on the front...right per Dynaco, but just wrong. Second, the old slide switches...agree. Before I bought my Prima Luna, I was planning to build a VTA...more specifically, a pair of their M125's. And, I was going to custom-build cases so I could choose where I put various things (like the power switch, the bias test points, etc.) and choose the style of switch.
Similar things could be done with an ST-120 kit. So, for folks with ability to build their own case and assemble the kit, you can have the great sound and eliminate some downsides if you want!

You should be in the market for a tube amp. Really. Mark Actually I may set up a 2 channel only but my plan is SS amp & tube preamp I currently have a combined 2-channel/multi-channel system. I use the tube for 2-channel and ss for multichannel or optionally 2-channel. I built a simple switch box that allows me to choose what amp is in play. I like the tube for most two channel and like the solid state for other two channel. A simple flip of a switch and I can go back and forth! Mark

klinemj I too have a similar sytem as yours! Also have "The Switch" and love it! Best of both worlds!! More options makes for more fun. Ive been swapping out speakers as well lately. Dont have a second switch but its easy access to the speaker cables.

I'm about ready to post up my review of the new(ish) Cary. Although it won't be as polished a presentation. Scott
