I have a Marantz nr1403 receiver and I am using the Emotiva A300 to power my fronts. I want to use the trigger function to have the amp turn on and off with the receiver. the Marantz has rca plugs in and out for controlling external components. The A300 has a 3.5mm in. So, I bought a cable that has a mono RCA (single plug) on one end for the Marantz Out and has a 3.5mm on the other end to go to the A300 In. However, it is not working. The amp does not turn on and off when I turn my receiver on and off. Any suggestions?

Yeah. Don't use that or you might screw something up in the receiver. Get a smart strip.

Please refer to page 48 of your owners manual. The remote out function is under the assumption that you are using Marantz compatible devices turn external devices. They make no mention of having any triggering function for anyone else. At least that what I just read from the manual downloaded from Marantz's own support site.

I am familiar with that page of the manual. It does say you can use the remote out to control external Marantz components...but it doesn't say that it will not control non-Marantz components. This is a very simple thing....a 12v signal going from the receiver to the amp. There shouldn't be anything proprietary about it. Wouldn't the plug I showed in the picture in my post transmit such a signal?

From memory the Marantz remote control output is digital (carries instructions) whereas a trigger output is a simple 12 volts on or off. Hence why it is labeled "Remote Control" not "Trigger". 12 VDC is the industry standard for a trigger output and input. However, some companies don't use the standard trigger signal (and they may do different things on different products). The wire you showed is a rather generic wire - and could carry a standard 12V trigger or many other types of signals. You should check with the manual for your particular piece of Marantz equipment - or ask Marantz directly. I am familiar with that page of the manual. Man, I hate it when a company tries to reinvent the wheel. I'll bet the Marantz is similar to the Cambridge Audio a member here wrote in about. CA has an exclusive wired 'link' with other components in that series. I'll bet Marantz is doing the same. Keith is right. The Marantz (and CA) cables carry more than a simple on/off in the form of 'instructions'.
My NAD1700 did it much better. The remote was switchable and would control a NAD CD player, my preamp/tuner and maybe a few other things IN THE NAD LINE.
Shame on them for not also including a standard trigger.
