I started with JRiver 18 and upgraded to version 19. Is there anything in the new 22 build for strictly two channel audio playback that would be worth the $22 cost to upgrade ?Thanks in advance for any feedback. Matt

Matt, I usually update with each iteration, but I rarely notice a huge change or improvement. I send them my money because I want the product, and believe that they will continue to make it if their users financially support the company. Having said that, I have never had a favorite aspect of the program nuked like I have with other programs, so that is good info.

I went from JRiver 19 to Roon 1.2 (soon to be 1.3)
It's like driving a Jeep to driving a high-end luxury vehicle.
I deleted JRiver 19 and haven't looked back.

If you're happy with what you've got and aren't into Trey's mindset of supporting JRiver, there's probably no reason to rush. I've had 20 through 22 and most of the new functionality has elicited a meh from me.
There have been some minor improvements to audio, however. There is new dither method and the addition of the Sox resampler. You can decide for yourself whether that's worth the cash.

jRiver is great about selling you "upgrades" that seem to upgrade absolutely nothing. I find that all the problems I had with the previous version are faithfully copied in each new version. drtrey3 accurately summed up jRiver's non-existing service. So, in short, I've bought every update and am now on V22. I don't plan to update again. If your current version of jRiver's working, then that's as good as it's going to get. Live with it.

I don't have any issues with JRiver, and I have thought about upgrading...just don't see a reason to. With boom's rousing endorsement, I doubt I will! But the roon comments did get me to go look. And YIKES! Crazy expensive is right. The lifetime version is 5x MS Office! If the 1 year price were for a lifetime license, I would do it without question, but... Geez! I would rather use JRiver and search up the extra info Roon provides by using my tablet that is almost always with me as I listen to tunes.

fobar2000 is free and customizable so it doesn't come with all the useless stuff. If Jriver / Roon decided to pay me for having to live with their bloat, then MAYBE I would consider using their software.

That's not true. Their upgrades have added a lot of functionality, but it's mostly not in the audio area. They've done all kinds of stuff with TV, home automation, multi-platform support, etc. They are very clear about their plans for each release. If the features don't interest you, don't upgrade. No pressure from them.
If you've got issues with the software then it's a crapshoot. Post on the forums there...it will go nowhere, somebody will help, or get fixed by JRiver quickly.

I can see how Roon could be a bargain IF YOU LIKE ALL THE EXTRA CONTENT THEY SEARCH OUT AND PROVIDE. If you really enjoy all that content, then compare the price to what you pay for cable TV, or XM Radio...... Personally, I just want my music player to... err... play music... so I won't be buying it any time soon. I don't have any issues with JRiver, and I have thought about upgrading...just don't see a reason to. With boom's rousing endorsement, I doubt I will! But the roon comments did get me to go look. I still run JRiver 18 (which somehow I managed to free upgrade from 17). It works on my machine. I run Win 8. Don't like to play Windows roulette with compatibility. JRiver 18 does everything I need it to. Someday I may upgrade but am in no hurry.
