I need some help deciding on an amp for my center channel.
I am building a set of DIYSG 1099s. 5 in total.
I currently have an:
XPR-2 (Fronts) XPA-2 (bridge mono for rear) XPA-2 (bridge mono for rear) XPA-100 - not used currently
Should I find a used XPR-1 for the center or a XPA-1 or maybe get a new GEN3 Mono Block I saw they will be selling?

Why not use the XPA-100?

I am not sure it has enough power? what?! you are building 1099's which are 99db sensative...you can drive them to ear bleeding levels with a cheap AVR! 1st you dont need amps...second the xpa-100 (i use 3 of them for my 3 1099's...only acuse i need amps for atmos so might as well use the externals on my mains) will be WAY more than you will ever use...save your money

Unless you are unreasonably far, I can't imagine you EVER needing anything more than 15 watts.

How about no longer bridging the XPA-2s?
They're pretty robust.
I don't buy the... you only need 1..5..15 watts arguments. Dynamics need power.
Having more power than you need is RARELY a bad thing.

fschris, for a center channel, given that it is mostly for dialog, the XPA-100 is more than sufficient for your speakers. At least, try it and see how you like it.. it's a no-cost option!

I suppose the further he is from the speakers the more power he will need, but how much headroom is really necessary here? 32 watts, maybe 64 is enough and he'll have headroom to reach 114db, 10db above THX reference peaks.

It's the usual crowd that hates Watts.
Why, Hello there!

Using what you already have I'd try.
XPR-2 (Fronts) XPA-2 (bridge mono for center) XPA-2 (rears)
This would use what you already have, be plenty of power for your center yet bring it up more to the level of matching and mating well with your fronts. You definitely want your fronts and center to be as closely mated as possible.
Bridged XPA-2's is far overkill for your rear channels, no need for that at all.

It's the usual crowd that hates Watts. Why, Hello there! not at all....did you not read I HAVE 1099's (same as the OP is building) AND use 3 xpa-100's for them?!? he HAS more than enough (WAY more) power to have tons in reserve.....he doesn not need to drop 1k..on a new amp for these speakers

You always disagree with whatever I say. I'm used to it. I could say the XPA-100s are great and you'd find a way to disagree.

You could get one of the Wyred4Sound mono blocks. This little guy offers 625 watts @ 8Ω for $1,800. I've heard their stereo amps and think they are so good! If 625 watts isn't enough for the center channel, I'm going to be of no help.

XPA-2 (bridge mono for rear) XPA-2 (bridge mono for rear) A new level of overkill has been set. This bar is going to be tough to get over but someone I'm sure will be up to it.
