The XDA-2 is not appearing in the OS X (El Capitan) sound output options (preferences) nor is it appearing in Roon as a DAC (via USB).
Before I call Emotiva about repairs, I thought I would ask on the lounge in case I missed any potential solutions.
I've tried the following:
1. Unplugged the XDA-2's power cable from the outlet while it was on( reset).
2. Restarted the Mac Mini, reconnected the XDA-2 in various orders and combinations.
3. Connected the XDA-2 to a Macbook Pro in various orders and combinations.
4. Tried a few different USB cables.
5. Connected another DAC (cheapo Behringer) to the Mac Mini and it appeared in preferences and in Roon.
Note: DAC is recognized and works when connected to either computers via toslink but the sound is nowhere near as good as USB (not trying to start a war about this issue - just want USB to work)
Anything else I should try before calling Emotiva?

Try this; Turn off your Mac and press at start alt+cmd+p+r until another starting sound appears. With this command the USB bus will be reset and the USB device may be recognised now.

Thanks for the suggestion. Still nothing.
Baffled.

Assuming that the USB input still doesn't appear on multiple Apple Mac computers... And you've already tried a nice short cable (well under six feet). Then your XDA-2 is probably broken - and will need repair.
Contact Emotiva for an RMA.
