I have a Yamaha R-S700 receiver which can be used as a preamp because it has a main output. I was told by the Yamaha dealer they make a fine preamp when I'm ready to upgrade power. The Yamaha is 100w per channel. I have Klipsch KG4 speaker which I believe have a sensitivity rating of 94. My question is will the Emotiva A-300 be a real upgrade in sound. I have owned the Klipsch since new in 1988. I am planning on putting new crossovers and tweeter diaphragms in them as well.

To answer your question really the only one that can do that is you, for me when I added two UPA-1 amps to my RXV-1065 I noticed a difference for the better but everyone's experiences will be different, I say take advantage of the 30 day trial Chad

Just speaking ELECTRICALLY, not sound-wise or your preference, the A-300 is only a little more powerful than the Yamaha. Of course, Yamaha provides only Minimal information.
Agree with creimes, that this is a 'try it and see' proposition.
The KG4 is pretty sensitive and makes good use of available power. It is 6 ohm so the A300 will put out slightly more than the advertised 8 ohm rating.
The Yamaha may indeed make a good preamp only. Once you free the powersupply from the burden of the power amp section, the preamp will have power to spare and perform its best.

Completed the refurbishment of the KG4's and WOW!. Even CD's sound good again. Can't believe how much more sound is coming out.

Are you using the Yamaha to power your speakers? How do they sound with the Yamaha?
