Newbie here looking to purchase XMC-1. Is it correct that both the original XMC-1 Gen-2 with HDMI 1.4 and current model with a single HDMI V2.0 output / input can be upgraded to the upcoming HDMI board with all HDMI V2.0 ports? If I remember right, a new HDMI board that is not out yet will have all 2.0 or better on all output ports. It is to be for the current XMC-1.

So an original Gen-2 can be upgraded? And a gen-2 that has the current HDMI board can be upgraded?

So an original Gen-2 can be upgraded? And a gen-2 that has the current HDMI board can be upgraded? This is the heart of the design principle for the XMC. It is built modular so components like the HDMI board can be replaced and upgraded. There are limits to upgrading anything though and there will be a new generation and new models that address future changes that can not be just a simple component upgrade. The current XMC-1, again if I remember right, is going to be capable of 2. something HDMI so you can run your 4k HDR signal and its Digital Content Protection (HDCP) thru the XMC-1 and out all the outputs.

Any XMC-1 ever made will accept any XMC-1 upgrade we have planned so far (including the current 4k HDMI upgrade, the upcoming 4k HDMI upgrade, and the Atmos/DTS-X upgrade). Note that all three upgrades are separate independent hardware upgrades - and all three require that a board be physically replaced. The two HDMI upgrades can be installed by the user or at the factory; the Atmos/DTS-X board will be factory install only. So an original Gen-2 can be upgraded? And a gen-2 that has the current HDMI board can be upgraded?

The modular, configurable design of the new XPA Gen 3 amplifiers goes right along with this and a very smart move Emotiva.

It is now early Q2 2017. Are things still on track now for the improved HDMI board with multiple inputs/outputs? Has Emotiva stated an expected ready date by now? I'm still holding out for this more flexible upgrade since I have at least 2 4K inputs already.

Please This handy switcher was mentioned recently Wilbur ; www.essenceelectrostatic.com/product/evolve-ii-4k/that could feed your XMC1'S multi analog input and a 2 port hdmi UHD player could mean 2 devices in the interim while you wait ?

I'm patient and can wait. In the meantime, I will be buying an Oppo 203 soon and will have to connect directly to my 4K TV. Not as convenient, but will work. The main thing here is re-training the family.

I'm fine - running audio to the XMC-1 and video directly to the TV.

Me either, actually. It's a royal PITA, but definitely a 1st World Problem.

Correct. 2.0b on all in's and out's. Use three of the big Panasonic HDMI parts. The v2 HDMI board was always intended to be an interim solution until the new v3 board was ready. Remember, there is only one part on the market at there moment that can do what is needed and that is the Panasonic part. ADI, SI, and others are very late coming in with their 2.0b parts. In ADI's case it's pushing 2 years... And to add to the pain, Panasonic is very slow to work with and documentation, etc. is very sparse. It took over 6 months just to get them to talk to us. Longer to get NDA's executed, etc. You get the idea, it's not for the faint of heart. It takes a big design effort to implement the parts, but they are extremely good. So, hang in there. We've got them working and they will be available in the summer. Maybe I should concentrate on speakers... MDF, a table saw, a hole saw, off the shelf parts, and some black paint... sounds easy! 😂 Dear Dan,
Any possibility of enabling a DSD over PCM (DOP) option on these Panasonic HDMI inputs to allow HTPC DSD connectivity to the XMC-1 (via JRiver Media Center)
This is the only home audiophile missing basic feature I can think of.
Also, I did a search andcan't see this mentioned, but the DTS-X / Atmos board has some upgraded faster / more powerful DSP processors over the XMC-1 Gen 2, so will Dirac Live be native 24/96 (or even 24/192) or will any Dirac processed sound be down sampled to 24/48 like it currently is?)
Regards,
Mark
