I do want to thank nathanzachary for writing that up; more tutorials on linux is always beneficial. But perhaps it should be noted that this is mostly benefiting "hardcore linux" users using custom built kernels. Anyone using a common linux distro like ubuntu, debian, suse, fedora etc can just plug the device in and it works with no further configuration. The most you have to do is open your sound settings and choose the Big Ego as your output. Just trying to clear that up for completeness in case some linux user gets turned off the Big Ego thinking they have to drop down to a terminal or something.

I agree with copperpipe. I'm not a hard-core user of any op system. I just want something that works. Everything I plug into my Linux box has been plug n play so far. Wish I could say that about Window. Some times I'd like to have more flexibility for tweaking settings - like video card etc with Linux. I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I dislike the command line and avoid it when I can. It's all I used in the mid 80's as a computer programmer/operator. There was no GUI's back then. I use the HDMI sound from the PC for movies - gives me excellent 5.1 audio - for stereo I use a real cheap Behringer DAC - works perfect. DAC's do not need to be expensive to sound good these days. It's no longer rocket science.
