Does anyone have the RLS Speedwoofer? Was wondering how you like it... I have some REO Speedwagon, does that count?

1st update on RSL Speedwoofer 10S. Ordered Thursday, received Wednesday. Nice packaging, but DOA. Amplifier is bad as it makes random beeping / thumping sounds. RSL has responded and is sending me a new amplifier (my choice) They offered to send me a new one, send me a new amp and extend my warranty by 1 year or send it back for full replacement. Still waiting to actually HEAR the performance of this sub.

Does anyone have the RLS Speedwoofer? Was wondering how you like it... I finally got the new amp for the defective unit they originally sent me. A few minutes and the amp was replaced. I ran the EMO-EQ and the sub was in action. After playing some Pink Floyd and Dire Straits, the sub was way too strong. The best way I found was to just scale back the volume control on the sub. I use it primarily for music, so it is un-natural to have it so over powering. The good - the sub is very accurate, the kick drums are very clear (I never really heard them before). I am very pleased how this sub blends with my Elac UF5's. I have yet to try it with any movie content, but based on my music experience, it should be fine. If I get some time, I am going to play with the room placement, but as of now, the RSL Speedwoofer is way ahead of the Polk sub it replaced.

How about a 6 month update ! These subs look interesting. Nothing wrong with this sub. I have not "compared" it to the competition, but I feel it does all that I would expect. As I said, my use is 90% music and for that it blends very well with my main speakers (ELAC UF5). I have watched several movies and it makes my wife jump with some of the "thumps" coming from many of the scenes. Even though I have set it several db lower manually for music listening, it will still shake the room more than adequately for movie material. Overall, I give it a 5 at this price point.

If you mean RSL, not RLS, than no, not since the early 80s or so. RSL is a SoCal Boutique brand which had maybe 6 or so stores in the 'southland'. The sales staff was NOT on commission. Later, the owner sold the name TO the sales guys who ended up closing shop. Fast Forward to the 2000s and the original owner brought the name back and an entire new line of speakers.
The original 'SpeedScreen' was a pretty good speaker.
I owned the 3600 Studio Monitor, a reasonable copy of the JBL 4311 or L100, maybe.
The guy knows his stuff and I'd expect the sub to be a pretty good value in a very competitive space.

18 month follow up. The sub had been more than acceptable in performance until.... yesterday. I cam home from work, fired up some music and it sounded a little lacking. I looked at the sub light to see if it turned on via its auto mode. No light. After replacing a 5A fuse and powering it back on, poof, blown fuse. I got in touch with RSL and they are sending me a new amp. I have been going back and forth with Joe Rogers via email and he said that the Speedwoofer S10 had an original 5% failure rate. Anyway a new amp is on its way and according to Joe has had several reliability improvements since my original purchase. We will see....

Very forthcoming for a manufacurer to mention a failure rate. And that it was addressed and is now MORE reliable. Hope this works out for you.

Very forthcoming for a manufacurer to mention a failure rate. And that it was addressed and is now MORE reliable. Hope this works out for you. Yes 5% failure rate is terrible. (50,000 ppm). For this type of product with a SMPS and Class D amp, a fair failure rate may be in the 6000 ppm area or 0.6%. Fortunately for them, they have excellent customer service. Fast response (from the owner) and within 24 hours I had a new amp being shipped, with an extended warranty as well. Time will tell.
