Hi Guys...experiencing near audio nirvana w/ the XMC but it developed a problem I hope is minor but I can't seem to troubleshoot it. Out of the blue, after a thunderstorm, it will no longer send the signal from my stb to the LG oled tv. My OPPO 203 signal is still sent but not the signal from the Cox Contour box. Never had any handshake issues w/ the stb before
I have tried; - switching all hdmi cables - exchanged the stb for the updated Contour stb..no change - used every hdmi input...no change - verified the OPPO signal was live from an hdmi input..connected the stb to the same input and nothing - verifying that the stb was functioning properly by connecting it directly to the tv and it was
I feel like there must be a simple solution that I am just overlooking since all components individually appear to be functioning to spec. Short term I am just going straight to the tv...but want to run through the XMC for obvious audio reasons. One thing has changed..when I exchanged boxes I added internet to the pipe. But, this shouldn't have any impact since the coax goes directly into the box right? I mean the original box may somehow have been damaged...even though all my components are plugged into a Panamax mr 5100 and no other components showed any signs of damage...but I can't find any reason why the new box can't communicate w/ the XMC.
Any help appreciated.

If you have not powered down, unplugged both the xmc and the stb...I would try that.

Like Bootman said, check the settings for your box first and then also check the XMC settings for that particular HDMI input. Some settings could have unexpectedly changed due to the electrical interference.. It's worth a shot

Thanks everybody for the input. Have re-booted to no effect. Stb output fixed @ 1080i- its highest setting. Hdmi inputs all good w' accepting that resolution. Strangest problem I have encountered.
I have not upgraded software since purchase...is it possible I just need to do that?

You mentioned "after a thunderstorm". There could have been a "spike" over your coax cable and fouled something with the output from the stb. Hopefully, it didn't make it to the XMC-1 HDMI board.

Make a back up of your config just in case first.

Logic suggests that there might have been some non-default configuration setting on your original box that was necessary for it to run. That box then got wiped and the new box is set back to the defaults - or they've changed the defaults. I'm not sure why this would stop entirely - or only when the XMC-1 is involved - but it's worth a try. (On my cable box the default is 720i, and you have to change the setting to get 1080p.) If there was something wrong with the XMC-1 then it wouldn't work fine with the Oppo. Right - the XMC is fully functional...all components were protected by the surge protector...the new stb is set to 1080i.
That's why this is so puzzling. All components are completely operational individually and all the hdmi inputs on the XMC are functioning normally except when pared w/ the stb...which is fine except when paired w/ the XMC.
I am going to try a hard re-boot of the XMC and go from there. I am beginning to take this as a personal challenge to my tech ability, lol.

Change set top box to output 1080P not 1080i.

Would love to - but unfortunately it is not an option with this box.

Should I assume you've tried the stb directly to the TV and that works?

Do you get audio, but no video (or neither)...? How long is the cable between your TV and the XMC-1...? Have you tried a direct connection from the STB to the TV using "that" (exact) cable...? Have you tried setting the STB to the LOWEST possible resolution (480i/p) and, if so, does that produce an image at the TV...? I'm wondering if there's an output voltage issue with the HDMI port of your new STB. If you have a long cable run between your TV and the XMC-1, and the HDMI output voltage is too low, the TV cannot lock on to the signal and you'll get no picture. The XMC-1 is an HDMI repeater, but not a booster. Although typical cable broadcast standards don't require it, I'm also wondering if there could also be some sort of HDCP handshake issue at play. 480i/p wouldn't require an HDCP handshake and you wouldn't have to depend on the STB doing a correct resolution "fallback" rather than refusing to pass an image at all. 480i/p would also require less cable bandwidth at a given voltage. If there proves to be a problem with the box, simply exchange it. If the STB proves to be fine, I would back up the settings of the XMC-1, perform a "proper" factory reset (reload defaults, power down, switch off at the main power (back panel switch), press the front "Standby" button to drain any residual current, wait a few minutes, then power up), reload your default settings and see if that fixes your issue. If it doesn't, I would re-flash a fresh copy of the XMC-1's firmware, rinse and repeat using the same procedure I mentioned above. Also keep in mind that almost all cable STBs run a "hot" HDMI output (they're always on) and won't renegotiate a handshake unless fully powered down which requires unplugging them from the wall. If you reset the XMC-1, I would also unplug the HDMI from the STB before doing so and also power cycle the STB as well. Hope this helps...

"I have not upgraded software since purchase...is it possible I just need to do that?" The newest 4.0 update has things in it that ALL XMC-1's benefit from, regardless. When I hear about storms, well....you know, it MAY or may not solve your problem, but you should do this either way and this way, it's eliminated from the mix as an issue. Save your configuration to an outboard memory stick and do a factory reset, then upgrade to 4.0 and then, reinstall your configuration. If that doesn't work a road trip to Franklin is in the future I guess. Bill

First - thanks for all the help.
I tried everything advised. In the end I solved the problem by doing what I probably should have done right out of the gate. I reset to original factory. Good as new and I now have a crash course in everything you can possibly do short of boxing the unit up and sending it to Emo in problem solving the XMC.
Man, does it feel good having everything up and going again.
