I have just purchased an Emotiva XPA GEN 3 and two Emotiva A-500 amplifiers. I would like to know how many Emotiva CMX-6 line filters do I need to purchase to protect and filter my amps.

Emotiva would tell you to plug them directly into the wall outlet as line filtering and protection circuitry is already built into the amp. However, if you'd like an extra ounce of prevention, I would (and have) purchase one CMX-2 and one CMX-6. Since the A-500 uses a toroidal transformer, the CMX-2 will remove DC offset (the CMX-6 doesn't) which would be a useful benefit. Plug the CMX-2 into the wall, the CMX-6 into the CMX-2 and the amps into the CMX-6. Since neither of the CMX products are "current limiting", you shouldn't have a problem. Since the XPA "Gen 3" seies uses an SMPS power supply (instead or toroidals), A more cost effective approach might be to purchase one CMX-2 to service both A-500s and plug the XPA-3 directly into the wall. Hope this helps...

Emotiva builds the XPA amps to be tough all by themselves. Adding a CMX-6 is adding an extra layer of protection. (And a few more db of S/N). One should be plenty.

Your Emotiva amps are protected against fault conditions. You do not need the CMX-6 unless you are having audible trouble. Plug them directly in to the wall. However if you were to get a CMX-6 it won't hurt anything.
