Whenever someone posts a question or comment about an Emotiva product it better be favorable or the same posters climb out of the woodwork. Misunderstanding of what you say WILL happen. You WILL be mis-quoted - words WILL be parsed - and negativity WILL be found. Welcome to the Lounge - where never is heard a disparaging word - when it comes to Emotiva. FWIW power cords are sourced from varying suppliers. Perhaps it's in Emotiva's better interests to know if a particular supplier's parts are in danger of failing. I didn't see anything in the OP's original post that was anything but an inquiry about a wall cord. But then I flunked 'reading between the lines' 101 in college. Lighten up Francis.

Well honestly, I'd like to see a picture of the cord, too. I don't doubt the OP but am just curious to see what it looks like. So PLEASE, just post a pic so that will shut us all up!

I didn't see anything in the OP's original post that was anything but an inquiry about a wall cord. But then I flunked 'reading between the lines' 101 in college. But some of us that have been around for a while never remember seeing power cords with grey connectors. Not even Hairnick remembers them. Could it be they've faded? I've had a few for about 5 years and they're still black but for the most part out of the light. All we're asking is a photo to see what he's talking about. For what it's worth, I think the OP is talking about the accessory power cords sold by Emotiva and not the power cords that come with any piece of gear. The former are hard plastic and the latter are rubberized. I called the wife and asked her to take a few photos and send them to me. I hope to trek home this weekend and bring back the one in-question which will get handed to EMO-HQ (hopefully, by Friday, 24 Feb.) BTW: all of my other power cords have red or purple mesh jackets versus the black that the EMO's have. So, confusing one for one of the others is unlikely (and I'm not color blind, BTW). I didn't expect EMOTIVA, Keith, to proffer anything - I assume the cord is long out-of-warranty since there is no explicit warranty listed; but since he offered, it is the gentlemanly thing to do and thank him publicly; doing so privately is akin to NOT acknowledging. The power cords that come with EMO gear never get used. They're left in the shipping box or tossed on the pile.

Can you hear a difference with the after market wires since you just throw the Emotiva factory ones in a heap somewhere? Do the pruple sound better than the red? Just kidding of course, that is another battle for another day

AHHH YES! ....lot's of truth there! "The Lounge" can be an easy place to get run over if you don't watch out. In my opinion though, this one is not about that, no not at all. It's not about cracked power cords, pink green or candy colored (or maybe grey or gray!) It's about a customer (and this happens every so often) who chooses to vent about a problem without getting on the phone and calling the company first. I mean this guy is still beating up Dan here (he did it again!!) instead of getting on the phone and having the discussion with the right people. And then....grandstanding about thanking Keith publically for his offer to replace the cord. (give me a break!) Now, I don't know about anyone else here, but........this fellow has me so confused, for the life of me I don't know what is plugged into what , or if any or all of his "EMO" cords are somewhere other than plugged into his gear. Years ago, I learned that when you have to try too hard to figure someone out SOMETHING is terribly wrong! Interesting day! Bill

Enjoy - it is an EMO cable.
No one was "beating up" Dan other than Mr. Bill - prone to extremes.

How is he "grandstanding" by acknowledging keith? He mentioned he purchased these cables long ago. He figured they were way outside of any warranty period. Why would he phone Emotiva? He did not expect any replacement cable. The dude purchased an Emotiva cable and he made a thread to talk about what happened on the Emotiva forum. There is literally nothing strange or out of line about that (besides maybe your constant projections of intent), and this should be the perfect place to talk about his cable. Does one need to meet a certain post quota before they can make threads like this to prove their Emo Purity or something?

DRAMA ALLLLLEEERRRTTT!
Three Points We All Can Relate to....
1. We all love EMO gear and are fond of the direct/personal relationship EMO MGMT allows their clientele to have them. 2. They were purchased as accessories and were not the original cables supplied with the purchase. 3. EMO GEAR ROCKS!
Cheers!

That's what she said.
(Yes. This is the lounge when there isn't some new hot product to gossip about)
Prediction: that cracking is super unusual. Emotiva will replace them. And then the lounge can go back to "is the XMC-2 or RMC-1 out yet?)

Move on everyone! There's nothing else to read/see here! As Dan has already said, Emotiva customer service and the OP will sort this out in short order.

Grade school physics time: I'm postulating the cause is over-tightening of the screws retaining the ring around the strain relief. Applying too much torque on the screws will cause a fracture along the longitudinal axis; if it had been over-tightening of the screws attaching the plug, the cracks would run horizontally (around the case versus length-wise).
Beardedalbatross - dead on and well phrased.
Does the color make a difference someone asked: Purple, having a short wavelength, is best used for high frequency (treble); red, having a long wavelength, is best for bass. Mass spectrometry and refraction will bear this out...your mileage may vary; wear your waders.
Is that EMO-blueberry Kool-Aid?
