The Shure M97Xe is a moving magnet cartridge with an output of 4mV. There is no need to configure the resistive load as you would with a moving coil cartridge. The settings on the XPS-1 are for moving coil cartridges. You would just select MM (moving magnet) on the XPS-1.
Yes, the XPS-1 is high performance phono preamp and will work excellent with the Shure M97Xe.

Axis is correct. You only need to configure the resistive value with a Moving Coil Cartridge. Please note the excerpt from page 5 of the operator's manual.
"If you choose the MC (moving coil) setting, you will also be able to configure the resistive load seen by the cartridge. This setting will change the way the cartridge sounds, and most manufacturers will offer advice on the best value to choose. (Feel free to change this value if you prefer a different sound; it won’t damage your cartridge.) To choose a particular value of resistive load, set the associated switch to On."
Moving Magnet is just plug in and enjoy. The XPS-1 will perform well with your Shure.
