audiobill What sets of tube did you like for your M-120 when you had them? Curious 🧐 edited, I am asking about the older M-120 version of the same amp. Same, only different.

I’m in search of an octuple of KT88. Who has or would be your go to source? I’d prefer matched tubes.

Any particular Brand of interest? The GL KT88 is considered a good tube. Finding NOS tubes in an Octet and matched? Mortgage the Casa. And for a PAIR of amps? A quad of each......one per amp, may be a little easier on the $$$ and sound identical....the fraction of a db difference?
In another forum I asked about 'who to buy from' and IF any counterfeit are sold?

They are on vacation until Monday, but the last time I ordered from them while on vacation the tubes were sent on the first business day after vacation and I got them two days later, so, they don't dilly dally. I currently use KT120 tubes in my M-125 amps. It's not a huge difference from the KT88, but I like the KT120 better.

So you don’t find any advantages to the KT88 ? edit; why Gold Lions and not Mullards or some other brand? Curious.

So you don’t find any advantages to the KT88 ? No, the other way around. I got the KT88 tubes when I ordered the M-125 kits, used them for about a year+, then wondered about the KT120. After reading all the confusion I ordered a set, so the KT88 octet sits on a shelf. Yes, I like the KT120's better. Everything seems easier and more effortless. Like I said, it's not a huge difference, but it's a difference none the less. Little bit more power, about 6 watts from what I measured when using 4 tubes, so, something, but not a lot. Now keep in mind that I use the amps in Triode mode, so when I say 6 watts, it's 72 watts vs 66 watts.

Not sure I could actually post enough exclamation marks! LOL Ill be happy with closely matched new, still not cheap when you consider I’ll be purchasing 8 tubes. 😱

Yes, 8x tubes of KT88 will REALLY put a dent in your credit card. NOS would MELT it.
Some snarky type on the other forum pulled the 'it's been asked' card on me.....

An aside... NEVER loan tube audio gear to your buddies. Not knowing any better, the "tube ignoratti" will leave your tube unit on (like they would solid-state gear) to "burn in" the unit in hopes of making it sound better. In fact what this does is quickly age the tubes and make the entire component sound flat and profoundly undynamic. Even if you warn your buddies not to do this, in their excitement, they may forget it. Not only have I lost a tube set for a M125 mono pair, but also a tube set for a balanced-circuitry tube preamp. Several hundred dollars worth of tubes due to simple ignorance on the part of otherwise smart audiophiles...
I may loan solid-state gear to friends, but I'll NEVER again loan out tube gear.

If you actually have a copy of the image file on your computer (or iPad) then you can simply use the "Add Attachment" button at the top right of the window where you're typing your text. This is the most reliable and consistent way to add a picture to a post.
Note that you must first "Add" one or more attachments... then you must "Insert" them into your post... (if you don't do the second step then nobody will see them).
How about using an iPad? Can't right click to get url image location. Attachments:xlicons.exe (1.41 MB)
