If what this link is talking about is true, it seems that soon there will be a real lossless Spotify premium or 'Hi-Fi' version: Spotify Hi-FiFrom EngadgetAs I was talking about on the MQA thread. It was about to happen: Spotify was losing customers just for that in favor of Tidal.

Spotify currently has the most paying subscribers of any service... And probably the best selection of music... This should give them back a compelling advantage over Tidal (who is known for having a somewhat limited selection)... I guess we'll see. If Spotify does offer lossless, I wonder if Roon will finally integrate the service? As a TIDAL HIFI subscriber, I am frustrated a few times per month when I cannot find an album (primarily classical).
Safe to say they will use FLAC and not OggPCM which, if memory serves, has zero compression and would require a lot of bandwidth.

I hope they do come out with a better quality streaming service. I use Spotify on a daily basis and feel it is the best as far as interface and finding new music. The downfalls of it are quality (not that is terrible), but this would check that one off the list. The other is that they won't let their service be native to any other system or components. They want to use Spotify connect. It does have it's perks, but also makes it complicated for some situations.

Spotify just rolled past 50 million subscribers so I think they are doing just fine.
Looks like it will cost an extra $5-$10 per month to add on the hifi quality audio.
I've been a premium member for many years now and i'm perfectly happy with the current quality of their "high quality" setting and highly doubt I would add on.
