Today my XMC-1 was stuck in the boot process. The worst time, just before the weekend I tried several time a reboot, unplugged it for 10 minutes but no success. I was able to access the test menu, and there the tests works as expected. This is where the boot stops: I didn't paid too much attention to the picture before, but now I see some strange pixels in the 'm' (the left upper corner) and the next to the 'a' there are some pixels. Is this normal or might this be an indication something is wrong with the memory? Any suggestion is welcome to help me to survive this weekend. I plan to give Emotiva a call Monday. ------------ Solved + Tip ------------ My XMC-1 is back in excellent working condition. With the help of an Emotiva technician I found the cause of the problem and the solution. I had left the XMC-1 connected to my router (TP-Link) for easy Dirac updated. However, that proved to be the issue. Since I've left the network cable unplugged no further issues.

If you haven't already, turn it off and unplug it. Go grab a coffee and then try again after a few minutes. I don't have a scientific explanation but sometimes the gremlins get bored and leave!

Mine has done that several times, I usually leave it unplugged overnite and it starts up in the morning. The first time it happened was a power outage while it was on and that required a RMA to Emo to replace the ECC board. Can't really say what has caused it after that but I have always have been able to recover it myself, so far...
I can say the one time was a fast power cycle kind of thing where I turned it off when I didn't mean to then powered it back up almost immediately and it stuck. Maybe some portion of memory gets corrupted when the power is interrupted unexpectedly ?

He's being modest, it gives the capacitors time to discharge, so anything held in volatile memory goes away. When I do this with any sort of computer controlled item with a mechanical switch, I also press the on/off switch after the item is unplugged (try it with a desktop with the case open, and even though it's unplugged, watch your fans start to spin up, and any motherboard lights go on).

Capacitor decay discharge. And some of the older switches like cherry switches especially were prone to it.

Thanks for all the advise. I left it unplugged all night, but this morning it still doesn't want to continue into normal operation. I've removed the XMC-1 from the rack and replaced it with my XDA-2, I have at least some music in stereo. Monday I'll call Emotiva.

Let us know how it goes. Hopefully if it's an RMA, it doesn't take too long to be back up and running.

ECC board needs replacement. Went through that last year, like merlinwerks. Emo turnaround was quick. I hope you have the box it came in, replacement is $30

The XMC-1 was the weekend outside of my rack and off power. I did a quick check just before calling Emotiva, and it seems to work again! I have to put it back in my rack in the next couple of days, then I know for sure if everything is well.

I have to put it back in my rack in the next couple of days, then I know for sure if everything is well. Do not be surprised if the issue comes back! In December, I had a reverse situation whereby the XMC-1 kept restarting itself automatically when placed in standby mode... I went through the unplugging and replugging routine you have just described, and that seemed to fix the problem temporarily. About three weeks later, actually on the night of December 24th, the problem returned with a vengeance, but this time the unit was hanging on the "start up" stage--literally at the moment when the OSD says "Starting up" on my TV screen... This time around, no amount of unplugging and replugging seemed to fix the problem, and I had to RMA the unit to EMO for about 3 weeks in Dec/January to have the problem solved. I think it took three weeks because my unit went there over the New Year's break when most of the EMO personnel were wrapped up in CES 2017-related matters, but it eventually got resolved. The official servicing report said: "ECC replaced" But I am not sure what the "ECC" stands for. I do hope you do not have go through that hustle and that your unit continues to work right.

You just had to leave it alone and unplugged for a bit until the gremlins got bored and left.

ECC = Error-correcting code (memory board) to protect against data corruption.

ECC = Error-correcting code (memory board) to protect against data corruption. Like the memory used in data center servers, but NOT on your home PC (with rare exceptions).

The XMC-1 is back in my rack and everything is working as before. In the end the problem was solved by keeping it unplugged for 2 days.
