Is it possible to use the line level out to connect a 2 channel power amp (and obviously have the stereo speakers driven by the power amp) while still using the subwoofer output on the TA-100 to drive a sub?

Hello lucas. Yes you can. As a matter of fact you can connect your 2 channel Power amplifier from the Main Line out left and right, and drive your Power Amplifier which in turn will of course drive your speakers. The TA-100 allows you to either use the Mono Pre out, or Summed Pre out to drive your Subwoofer effortlessly. Please see page 10 of the Owners Manual downloadable in .PDF form for more details. emotiva.com/resources/manuals/BASX_TA-100_User_Manual_v10.pdfPlease let us know if you have further questions. Also please let us know how you are getting along with your setup. And also, welcome to the Emotiva Lounge.

I have a slightly different question. Assuming the on-board amplifiers are driven to full power (50W RMS pc), what is the RMS voltage which will appear on the line outs? This is important in order to balance driver efficiencies between the built-in amplifiers and, say, a BASX -A300 connected on the line outs. Thanks, J-J

Thanks, J-J this can be done either by EAR or using a calibrated mic and test tones. Are you intending a active multi-way speaker? Let's say the A300 is a few db QUIETER than the inboard amp. What would you do?

Active 2-way indeed. The woofers are less sensitive than the full- ranges (I have changed my mind regarding the choice of woofers compared with an older post). If the A-300 is less sensitive than the on-board amplifiers, I 'm dead. I know the real solution is a PT-100, an A-100 (which has volume control), and an A-300. But it's more €€€. J-J

J-J What are you using for a crossover? Something like a MiniDSP will allow a range of gain adjustment. And IF you limit yourself to an Active 2-way (times 2 for stereo!) than a 2x4 would work. The 2x4HD would, at additional expense, allow the use of FIR filters which have NO phase shift thru the passband.

First? doing a project like this 'on the cheap' is a route to an unsatisfactory result. Second? You may not be worried about the right stuff. Upper and lower frequency limits of drivers chosen might be more important. MiniDSP provides gain adjustment AND crossover choices as well as parametric EQ choices beyond 'flexible'. And for long-term satisfaction, a preamp->crossover->amps hookup will allow swapping / upgrading on the fly without having to reengineer the whole thing. Unless you decide to start swapping drivers around.

leonskiIt would be too long and boring to give all the details. What I notice is that it's not easy to obtain technical info from Emo. I was just looking for a figure like 100mV or 1V or whatever. Thanks for replying anyway. J-J

What would you DO wth the number? Pad the 'hot' driver down with a resistor? An active LL crossover with measuring mic and software (REW is free!) would get you there AND allow for a 'shelf' in the crossover to balance driver output.

I have no problems going for PT-100 + active ll xover. I was just wondering if I cud use a TA-100 instead. The FR drivers would have been driven...full-range, and the woofers properly crossed over with volume control. J-J

Me? and FWIW? I'd do a SINGLE setup and forget it. You can raise or lower the output a few DB using an active crossove. In years past, I owned several speakers with 'padded' drivers. Some JBL4311 and a near-copy from RSL, the RSL3600, a boutique brand here in SoCal. In either case, I don't believe the speakers came with a low-pass crossover to the woofer. They were allowed to roll-off at the natural rate while the mid took up and WAS crossed over to limit overlap between drivers. In both cases, I'd set it ONCE and forget about it. IMO, if the speaker designer did their job, it is an unnecessary control and can easily be adjusted thru speaker setup by the end user. YOU should be able to fix it ONCE using DSP than detail it with proper speaker setup, in-room. vesselyn.com/amJsLWwxMDAtY3Jvc3NvdmVyLXNjaGVtYXRpYw/I think the upper left pic is the ORIGINAL as-issued crossover while you have several experimental choices. This is for the L100, which as near as I can tell is the consumer version of the 4311?

Thank you for all the info. Lucky you, you live in California, my favourite state... Weather usually terrific. Beach to mountains in a 3 hour or so drive. Vegas 5 hours w/1hour lunch stop. Possible for me to get to not 1, but 3 major league ball clubs for a game. One of which is a 20 minute drive and 1 hour train ride away. Taxes? Huge. Certain other facets of the state are awful. I won't get into politics or some other issues, but the goose who lays the golden egg has been shot for dinner. BIG Audio Show coming soon up in Orange County. Easy 1 hour drive and cheap parking. MANY Gourmet-style lunch trucks for noon repast.

Yeah, I know California pretty well; been there about 30 times in the 80s -90s. May have changed though, and I 'm not only thinking about taxes, but also about fires. I've driven a number of times from Vegas to SF, across the Death Valley, spending the night in Three rivers, and crossing Sequoia park the following day. Sweet memories... If you live close to Orange County, I 've got an address for you to check: le Chanteclair, irvine, near JW airport. Not cheap, but fantastic food, and an impressive wine list. Better book a table, though! Cheers, Jean-Jacques Edit: I googled for the Chanteclair, just to discover it is closed. Sniff, sniff!

Visting and permanent resident are 2 different things. Tourist dollars are contested for by ALL business and recreational folks. Stand in line for the La Jolla kayak adventure. Come for the Snow Skiing! Stay for the Avalanche!
Lots more people than water can support. And those wacko-s building the train? Already spending the profits which are VERY questionable on 'OTHER' stuff, and they're talking about floating a Bond Issue. Talk of raiding IDAHO for water I think have been backburnered. I live within 10 miles of a VERY large Desalinization plant, built with private funding.
Recent CA Gas Tax increase repeal WILL make the ballot with a HUGE overage of signatures gathered. Needed 500k+ and got OvER 900k.
No longer a wine drinker. I lost interest many years ago (3 decades, at least) and dropped my 'wine club' membership. Give me a good Craft Beer and SKIP the IPA.

Yes, CA must have changed since my days. Maybe, if I were to settle in the US now, I would choose Portland, OR. WA is nice too, but rainy. And of course, there is BC nearby, although Vancouver is now full of Chinese. I'm a wine drinker, but I also thoroughly enjoy a good pint of bitter or Guinness (lived in the UK for some time). Cheers, J-J
