I can't be the only one here that finds this to be truly annoying. My XMC-1 is the only processor I have to run everything and to send it in for an upgrade puts my whole theater and entertainment center out of commission for at least a week. I tried speaking to Emotiva and explaining to them that I have been a computer technician for the past 10 years and I know I could easily install upgrades but they wont seem to budge on the issue.
Anyone else find this to be unacceptable?

I am going to chime in here. The upgrades are more than installing parts in the XMC-1. It will be fully tested on the Audio Precision, and other quality checks to be certain the XMC-1 is performing as it should. Yes. I get how inconvenient that maybe to some, but I, myself that is, would rather have done right, and have the full support of Emotiva Audio behind me afterwards. For some on this, your mileage may vary. Happy listening.

I have been trying to understand why i can install the hdmi board but not the atmos upgrade. Honestly once its released i hope that they at least try to explain why it is not possible. I have built my own computers for over 20 yrs myself and i have repaired my LG plasma twice so im not a complete (tasteless). Maybe there is some flash procedure that cant be done at home. I live about a far from Emotiva as physically possible on the North American continent so shipping is goin to be a real *bleep*, they are not sure if the repair guy in Alberta will be able to do the upgrade. Its unfortunate but it is what it is. Luckily i have a full setup in my bedroom so i can live without it for a bit though .

When my power amp went down, I actually found several other activities to occupy my time. I worked out 30 minutes longer after work, took my dog for longer walks, took longer bike rides and actually spent extra time with my gf and family at the beach. |

Maybe you can buy a "backup" XMC-1, and keep them in rotation?
A good system shouldn't need frequent "upgrades".

Im sorry if you find it unacceptable, and I can understand thats its annoying but please understand that if we sent you the boards, code and such and you did the install and for whatever reason it didn't work, who's fault would it be? From our stand point, we would say the boards were tested before leaving here, so we are not to blame. But from your side, knowing that you have built computers, you would most likely believe you followed all the steps correctly and followed proper procedure for ESD protection. From your perspective, you would most likely believe that the fault was not on your side and it very well might be something else like getting zapped in shipping. But it still doesn't solve the problem. You paid a tidy sum for an upgrade that doesn't work and if we don't fix it for you, then we become the bad guys. So I know its annoying, but its really for both our protection and it goes way beyond simply installing the boards. We have to flash the some key items, load in new code and we run it through the AP for a full certification test. So I would ask you to look at it more along the lines of "Peace of mind" knowing that its going to be perfect when you get it back. Lonnie |

Exactly correct. Most other companies will make you get the next production cycle of whatever Model 4xxx wxyz whatever to get the current or tomorrow tech, where Emotiva is working hard to keep your Processor current. That is not easy to do. And with the ever more complex HDMI and HDCP, and HDR, and more down the line. I admire Emotiva Audio's resolve to keep their Processors in the thick of the latest.

Yes you are 100% right about that. I was looking into McIntosh when I was doing my research on a new processor and well first of all their processors are insanely priced when you look at the AVP's with everything I would need and second of all it would be obsolete in about a years time which is absolutely ridiculous. The fact that you can upgrade these unit's is a big reason why I chose this brand, not to mention I absolutely loved the XPA Gen 3 that I bought so much that I was dying to try the processor but I was always under the impression that you could just order the parts. |

A question..
Are there any other companies that allow you to upgrade your gear at home? Meaning a AV Pre-Amp hardware?
I have a B&K Ref 10 AV Pre-Amp that they had upgrades for. If you did the upgrades the unit had to be sent back to the factory.

I get it. I've had to send my stuff in and it sucks while you are listening to your tv speakers or whatever. But you can't fault the company for insisting on installing the upgrades themselves. It is their hardware and by doing so they make sure that everything that happens to it is controlled by them.
It ensures quality.
