Does the market need another budget 8" subwoofer? It does when that budget 8" subwoofer sounds THIS good.
Steve's findings echo my own - that the BasX S8 is the sleeper value champ of the BasX speaker line, and it's already surprised a couple of small subwoofer skeptics around the office with its combination of impact and depth. I'm especially proud of what we've achieved with the BasX S8 - I know of no other 8" subwoofer that can out-punch it at anywhere near its price point.
I'm usually bothered by statements like, "it's the only one you'll ever need!" But the BasX S8 will probably hold off the upgrade bug a lot longer than other "value" subwoofers, and even if you do decide to upgrade, you'll want to put together a second system just to keep the S8 in use. It's a super-nifty little box.

Computer gaming on this I bet will rock. Also music and theater fans delight. Also creators of content in their studios that need a small subwoofer. Perfection.

I'm thinking of making a change sometime soon, would you all consider the BasX S10 to be an upgrade over my aging Velodyne Impact 10?

I'm thinking of making a change sometime soon, would you all consider the BasX S10 to be an upgrade over my aging Velodyne Impact 10? Knowing the Impact 10, I would say you could expect an improvement in quality (depth, attack) but the improvement in quantity would be more slight. If you want to see an improvement in all areas, consider the BasX S12. Best regards, Rory

I would love to go w dual subs due to the room configuration but right now that's pretty difficult with the current furniture set up. However, If I could do it, would 2 x S8's be better than one S12? What about 1 x S10 + 1 S8? My current Velodyne is in a corner next to the right front speaker, and there's a chance I could squeeze in a small footprint sub next to the left front.

It's better to keep subwoofers matched when you can. 2x S8s will not outplay one S12, but they will outplay one S10, and they will probably outplay your single Impact 10.

I hear that Rory. Power in numbers. I have heard many times multiple smaller Subwoofers in some cases can be very satisfying.

I hear that Rory. Power in numbers. I have heard many times multiple smaller Subwoofers in some cases can be very satisfying. Four of them at each corner of the room. I hear that can solve some nodes or modes problems or whatever they are. I am going to look into this because four little BasX S8's may be the ticket for me with surround sound. I am thinking not necessary for each corner of the room or middle of the walls but one beside each left and right main and one under each rear surround. I am not one to enjoy huge bass and if four subwoofers can get better results without placement problems and those mode things that would be cool. Research required.

Rory, The Frequency response quoted on the site says the Frequency response is 28 Hz - 200 Hz (+0/-3 dB) to 200Hz to -3dB. When I download the .png diagram for the S8 Freq Response it seems like it drops off to -3dB a lot closer to 100Hz or possibly a little higher but not close to 200Hz. Thoughts? Freq Response on site .

Freq Response on site . Sorry for the discrepancy. The graph is accurate, although the quoted frequency response limits are supposed to be +3/-3 (industry standard) and this is an error on the site. Do you have an application that requires response to 200 Hz?

Hi Rory,
No I don't have a use case for 200Hz, I have the crossover set at 80Hz paired with Airmotiv 5s.
I still don't see how this is +-3db from 28Hz - 200Hz. The drop off appears too much down to 200Hz.

What's the warranty on the these? - Sometimes the terseness of my reply can't be blamed on my phone.

i Like the fully variable phase. Makes integration with panel speakers somewhat easier.
What is the minimum crossover frequency? Slope? Is the crossover bypassed when using the LFE input which would let a HT receiver manage the bass?
I'd consider 4 of 'em. 2 stacks of 2 each. My room is over 4500 cubic feet which is clearly too much for just one of these.
For me? Crossing as high as even 80hz is OUT. That's just on the edge of being able to 'localize' the sub while my mains should be good to 45hz or so, with a lower limit in the mid-30s.
