I happened in to my local (Baton Rouge, LA) Radio Shack this morning and everything in the store (except Sprint cell phones / plans) was 20% off. Some items were 30%. The manager, when asked, said that he'd been told nothing (yet) about the store closing, but he could read the writing on the wall...
I've not seen this advertised yet, and it may be local, not nation-wide. But the entire inventory seemed to be mostly intact, and if you need anything remotely Shacky, now may be the time to drop in. Just a FYI - Boomzilla

Your radio shack may be the only radio shack in the world that is still open. They all closed around me years ago.

The Shack have been shuttering stores for a while now. I know of 3 in the Tampa area that followed the same pattern you describe. 20% off, then 30%... then 50% and finally 70%.
I do miss being able to pop in and buy needed electronic components and other items.

Boom...sad story but that event happened in my area YEARS AGO! Sucked. The nearest Radio Shack in my area is 5miles form my house. 5 miles isn't really a big deal but considering there was a store only 1mile away and in the same town it was a disappointment. I wonder if they intend to close the RS in my area.....5miles
It's was childhood hangout that I remember along with the Pharamacy that sold fountain ice cream sodas and a magazine rack full of comic books, and Mad magazines. Remember Alfred E Neauman?

There are a few Radio Shacks still around by me. I did drive by one today and noticed a guy standing out front twirling a sign for "___ percent off everything this store only". I didn't see what percent off it was but the "this store only" made me wonder if the store will be closing.

I'll bet they're all closing, they filed for bankruptcy protection just a few years ago. By the way, there is a Radio Shack near me (about a mile away), I didn't even look to see if there was a sale sign, or even if it was still open, when I passed it this morning.

Sears, JCP, Kmart are next. Macy's is transforming into a TJ Maxx type store.
Brick and mortar stores need to adapt or they'll all die.
It makes Emotiva's business model seem smarter, but I still don't understand why they moved away from 100% internet sales..

Well I am going to call this a mercy killing in retail. I am surprised Radio Shack had lived as long as it did. When I was a kid, yeah, Dinosaur drivers couldn't park either. You could buy anything electronics you wanted. Even high end gear like Reel to Reels from Teac, Akai, Sony, and other makes, and models. Need a diode, SCR rectifier of a certain spec? A weird battery? Got it. Needed to get a kit to build? Yep. Learning kits for the kids? Yeah.
As time went on, things changed. Radio Shack was caught sleeping at the controls. Places like Fry's Electronics, the Internet buyers, Best Buy, Circuit City, and so on murdered the slow poke retailer known as Radio Shack. In the end, they might have a fuse, or battery you might need. Or you can get a phone. Some useless toys anyone? Radio Shack is useless now, and needs to be put out of its misery. Its time has long passed. We have all moved on. So should Radio Shack.

I used to service the store lighting for radio shack in my area years ago. Getting paid was a nightmare to say the least.
Last week I stopped into my local dying radio shack to look at cassette adapters for my old Durango. 25 bucks. Walked out, went home and got a Monster adapter on eBay for 13. Bill

I would not miss our local store if it closed. The old Radio Shack from my youth I do miss but it has been gone for a long time.Today our local store sells cell phones and a few items that Walmart, which is right next door, probably has for half the money. It's kind of sad but the Shack just no longer has anything to offer me.

Bill See,this is exactly what I was talking about. This mirrors my experiences with the Shack from the last few years. Our local store has been constantly shrinking it's inventory options and what it does have is not priced at remotely competitive levels.

The one here is closing as well along with K-mart. I suppose Penneys might be next.

In the last 20 years, I can't remember buying anything from a Radio Shack except maybe twice, once for some computer part long ago, and once about 2 years ago to find a small odd fuse for an old deli (food) scale. I noticed that it looked like they were stocked with pure crap... RC toys and cell phones and cheap knockoff stuff, and the both of the slovenly clerks looked like they wanted someone to put them out of their misery. So, RIP but they've been irrelevant for years. Looks like we're pretty much an Amazon and Wal-Mart world now. Heck, Amazon even took away my long-term dedication to Barnes & Noble for books (Kindle), which I feel slightly guilty about.

I'm surprised any are still open. That business model is passé unless you want to spend $25 on a cord that you can buy on Amazon for $2.50

Went past this weekend, and sure enough, the store near me is closing. I stopped going years ago, the last time I was in I needed a slow burn fuse, which they did have. However, most of the time they wouldn't have the part I was looking for. Kind of sorry to see a concept disappear, but my go to place as a kid was Lafayette Electronics, where I used to pick up crystals for my hot-rodded CB (nothing like getting electrocuted while changing a crystal when the set was on )
